New from Wesbank into the "owners" name doesn't require it as it was originally purchased by proxy.
It's not really an ownership change at all when the bank hands it over.

A ok that makes sense.
We never changed ownership for any vehicles as it's already registered in the buyers name but remains the property of the financial institution until payed up. Registered owner and legal owner are two different things.

As I understand it, when the vehicle is paid up you only do a change of title holder. Owner remains the same, so no need for roadworthy.

We did all of it via the post office.
All I needed was the proof of payment from Wesbank, the ownership papers and the new Owner's ID.

Both sets of forms? Your yellow form to transfer it to the buyer and the buyer's blue form to register it in his name....

The vehicle is not in my possession anymore and is registered in the new owners name.
I have the cash, he has the car which is legally registered in his name.
Nothing else was asked for in the process of the registration and change of ownership.

The roadworthy certificate is not required to change ownership, it is required to relicence the vehicle, i.e. get a new licence disc, after the change of ownership has taken place. So if there is 6 months left on the current licence disc, the new owner only has to get it roadworthied 6 months after the car has changed ownership. So it is perfectly possible to change the ownership of a vehicle without a roadworthy certificate, but the new owner will not be able to renew the licence disc without a roadworthy certificate.
