Robbed German tourists eager to leave SA

You should probably stay behind the boerewors curtain. Apartheid is really the cause of our violent crime, it was a terrible and very stupid way to keep crime in check.

Spot the logic error. You say apartheid was designed to check crime, yet it was the cause. Which is it?

The cause, partly anyway. There would be far better ways of dealing with crime is what I meant, a very bad way of attempting to check crime which actually ended up causing far more crime. Not that that was it's only purpose.

Man, I think these Europeans are just trying to give SA a bad name because they are seeing it flourish with Tourism since the World Cup. This is probably some clever move by the Europeans to keep this place a dump so that they can have excuses to milk us.

I don't even believe half the ish in the news papers about robberies and crap.

Ok, I am a little bias but COME ON, is South Africa really this bad?? Such articles will really and I mean really make the revenues go down in this Country, a country which really feeds off Tourism!

Sigh...

Exactly. You've hit the nail on the head. People can yell all they want to that it happends in other countries. Well police in other countries follow things up, investigate, make arrests, convict and send to prison.
I've heard people from Britain, Canada, Japan and Australia making the same complaint about their local police.

yes, it is :p
it's not so bad that you can't go for a walk, as most people believe, but it's also not acceptable

Nope, not in those countries - the complaints are more related to stuff that we would regard as trivial / nonsensical.

In the USA there are also complaints about Police brutality (not often, but it happens), and also a rare brutality case in Canada (Airport Tazer case).

There are horrific incidents in this country - certainly bad enough to scare tourists away.

And a German tourist was not robbed in Manilla, or went missing in Australia, or froze to death in a hotel in Nepal, or was killed in San Francisco. Only tourists in SA get shafted... I'm not saying our situation is ideal, or that we shouldnt be trying to do anything about it, but seriously, these things happen all over the world.

Don't question me, question the tourists !

Also not sure how you compare a robbery in Manila to a rape and murder in SA - different scale of violence !

This stuff happens all over the world, things like this are not isolated to South Africa alone. Personally i don't blame them. I myself have been held at gun point by 6 african individuals in 2006 of December, they came in and threatened to rape my gf in front of me, etc..etc.. 1.5 years as we outa here.

You carry on telling yourself that - It does happen over the world, but the difference is that its ONE incident a year... NOT one incident every week!

Yeah true, it happens all over the world but where are moving to that's going to be better/safer?
For a start, I'd just like to get out of JHB :o

It happens all over the world but nowhere is it more prevalent than in SA. The headlines lately seem to be related to events outside of Joburg.

Humans generally care about themselves and their own.

We are neither blind nor illiterate, so we do know that crime happens all over. However, keeping in mind my 1st sentence, we will (obviously!) we more interested in the safety issues in our own country.
