Mthatha - A robber was killed in a police shoot-out at a KFC outlet in Mthatha, police said on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said four men entered a KFC outlet on Owens Road, in the Mthatha CBD, on Wednesday night, ordered a meal and ate like ordinary customers.

"The suspects waited until it was after 22:00 and then they all pulled out firearms and demanded money," said Fatyela.

They took more than R15 000 and tried to steal a van which was parked outside the KFC.

"Unfortunately for them, police were around and they pounced on them. A shooting ensued between the police and the suspect. One of the suspects was killed," Fatyela said.

A policeman was wounded, as was a robber. He was arrested on the spot and was under police guard in hospital, Fatyela said.

The other two robbers escaped. Police were searching for them.

Third KFC Robber Caught

A third robber involved in a clash with police at a KFC outlet in Mthatha was shot and wounded on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela said police found the man after they received information from residents of a nearby village.

After police cornered him, he opened fire. The police retaliated and he was shot in the leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

One of the robbers was killed during a shootout outside the fast food outlet on Wednesday night. Four men entered the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Owens Road, in the Mthatha CBD, ordered a meal and ate.

"The suspects waited until it was after 10pm and then they all pulled out firearms and demanded money," said Fatyela.

They took more than R15,000 and tried to steal a van parked outside.

"Unfortunately for them, police were around and they pounced on them. A shooting ensued between the police and the suspect. One of the suspects was killed."

A policeman was wounded, as was a robber. He was arrested on the spot and was under police guard in hospital. Police were still searching for the last robber.

So, it takes police hours to respond to house breakings/business roberies, but when it happens at a KFC, they are "around" ...
 
If a suspects opens fire on the police, are they allowed to shoot to kill in return?

If he stops shooting and runs away are you still allowed to put a few in his back or are you suppose to give chase and make an arrest?
