Robber shot dead at Jhb Primi

Good job by those guards. :)

Always 9mm pistols. Sigh. Where are the .38s, the .357s, the .32 and .380s, the .40 and .45s? Probably discarded, because 9mm is the only ammo that the cops and army can supply.
 
Not so accurate statistic, but i think for every 1 robber shot dead, 5 guards and 3 civilians die, not enough to be happy about, but at least it's a start. i just hope more robbers die than guards and civilians.
 
At least one person I know believes that Browning 50cal mounted on cash-in-transit vans would solve the heist problem nicely, and supposedly security companies are now allowed to outfit their guards with heavier weapons to counter the Kalashnikovs of the criminals. We'll see, might work, might end up with a lot of underpaid guards letting more battle rifles onto the market. These guys really need better motivation and appreciation in a country like SA, where they're an essential service.
 
Monday Morning

On Monday there was an armed robbery down the road.
Things however didn't bode well for the robbers as one was shot, another caught and a third was knocked senseless by the Security Guard.
A couple of the robbers made off with some cash, but it was recovered.

In this instance it was the Security Guard that caught the robbers offguard as he had just returned from the shop and noticed the Robbery in progress. It was his quick actions that derailed this robbery as he apprehended the person in the getaway car waiting outside, which was the one he knocked senseless apparently and shot at another, I think wounding him. The rest sped off on foot.
For about 20 minutes there were cop cars driving around our area like maniacs looking for the criminals.

Monday Mornings are often the worst times for Robberies.
 
Sad thing is, the only thing the criminals will learn is to go in shooting first :(

I'm not certain of your point. Yes, legally there's a difference and physically there's a big difference. However, especially with home invasions, criminals do tend to shoot first - or last. They also already have a bad habit of firing on unaware guards at heists and robberies.

By shooting last I mean the disturbing tendency lately of shooting people when they've already given up their valuables to the criminals.
 
Well someone waving a gun around a public place doesn't necessarily have to fire it to get what he wants. If I was in a restaurant that was being held up I'd be praying that some gun toting Joe Public doesn't open fire, rather just let him get out with what he wants without risking a shootout and collateral damage.
 
Yeah, this is a situation that a lot of Mall Ninja types fail to think through as well. My solution is simple - if they're waving guns around, let them have what they want. If they're violent, firing their weapons or beating people, open fire. It's unlikely to be that easy in real life, though. Consideration of danger to other people has to come first.

Criminals retreat when fired on. However, a responsible firearm user has to assess this against the chance of someone being hurt or killed. A Mall Ninja, on the other hand, would probably either open fire or freeze entirely.
