It says NOTHING on conviction rate.... the cops can arrest them all!, but the legal system is Fscked

So the festive season is 2 months and there is no mention of what the numbers are... 40% of WHAT? 10 000, down to 6000 per month is a 40% decrease - but it doesnt mean anything.

Besides... its not a robbery if someone gets killed... then its a Murder inquest

Tell that to my friend who was walking to work in Rondebosch this morning when what he describes as a Nigerian gentleman stuck a broken bottle in his neck and relieved him of his laptop and bag with ID and the like.
 
He was pretty compus mentus to make out that it was a foreign national who stabbed him in the neck. Assume he's still alive?
 
One good thing is that the campaign will continue indefinitely... there were complaints on here about the extra campaigns during festive seasons, so they doing something good for a change! right??
 
I thought these stats only involved solved cases? So perhaps less cases are being solved? Or perhaps they have sub divided the stats again? I cant see the results on the ground yet.
 
Don't forget that more and more people are not reporting it to the police, because they no its pointless...

I think it's good news.

Obviously more can be done and should be done but anyone who arrests 2989 rape suspects is doing a good job in my books.

40% drop in robberies is good... Strange that even though I posted the normal responses first everyone still felt the need to do it...

NaZKuL you may have a point but the more successes the police publicise the more chance that more people will report again?

Koos: the article is on Pretoria so I am not sure your story is relevant. Or is Ronedbosch in Pretoria?
 
Me gives everyone involved a thumbs up.

BUT - me thumb staying up is dependent on keeping those arrested behind bars - which in turn requires successful convictions - which requires good police work. If one of those links break, well, then all this good work is automatically undone.
 
Cheating on crime stats is easy.

When I was robbed it was written up as an armed robbery. During the same incident I was stabbed..no charge for that. No "assault" or some such. The cop on duty was "awake", he knew what he was doing, this isn't negligence. Perhaps he has orders to write a crim up on only one charge - the lesser.

(Unless somehow "armed robbery" is a blanket charge..?)

Gee they must be practically tripping over the crims out there. Makes me wonder what they've been doing for 13 years if this is "the festive season."

(So they knew about them but took no action before? Or suddenly these numbers are guilty? Stinks.)

Robbery aggravated 3 700

Robbery 3 275

6 417 firearms have been recovered from day-to-day operations. 63 605 firearms have been destroyed.

These reports are compiled quarterly and are up to the period December 2006
