Robbers pose as census workers

I was told this morning that they had to ask 75 questions, anyone confirm?

Just done mine, met him at the gate. Answered questions relating to income, property value ect with "I really don't know", "I don't feel comfortable answering that ". Not 75 questions but quite allot, confused though, how does knowing if I own a DVD player,computer,washing machine ect help with population stats ? Apparently if you don't answer a question the census worker fills in a answer for you (the guy told me this when not wanting to answer questions).

Why can't they have an online questionnaire, SARS style? Allocate a unique bar-code, printed on completion of online survey, apply to letter box, enumerator walks passed, scans it as being an e-filer, moves on! Saves time, money and most of all peace of mind option for the gated community.

I wonder what they would do when you go answer the gate and say.

"Hey I dont live here, I am just busy robbing the place."

Ponder this... there reason for census ( as per tv and radio ads) is to have accurate numbers in a particular area to provide better service to that area..
Ask your self what type of service is being provided at the moment in your area and ask yourself if they could do it better...

What a joke...

I'm at work during the day and not opening my door at night so they can go hopping! I'll complete the online version if they ever offer it :)

Eish, well I'm glad no one was hurt but they should have paid attention to the information regarding the census and who is doing them. At least the publicity the census is getting should speed up investigation etc.

We need cheap broadband, asking this for years. This is not going to help !

Don't be silly - of course they know how much electricity goes out on pre-paid too.

Well they know how much people are spending on electricity, they don't really know what people's consumption is. It's a one-way system afaik.

The United Nations underscores the following factors in determining the selection of topics to be investigated in population censuses:
a) The needs of a broad range of data users in the country;
b) Achievement of the maximum degree of international comparability, both within regions and on a worldwide basis;
c) The probable willingness and ability of the public to give adequate information on the topics; and
d) The total national resources available for conducting a census.

Probably the main reason why these types of questions are being asked.

It helps with the government's mafia/gangster connections ;)

I'd just add this: "didn't you hear malema say I have 5 german cars in one garage?"

I fail to understand your point - there is a relationship between spend and consumption. All those kwh thingies cost some of those R thingies. Besides - the census doesn't ask for a copy of your bill.

Also that meter box - it can be turned off remotely. Just like the ripple switches. Your balance drops to 0 and off go the lights. It isn't like some chap is going to eventually show up and pull pieces of wire out the db.

Truth is that all meters could be set up that they could be read remotely. Bit too much vessted interest in the meter reading that people who have suggested going for remote reading capability have received death threats.

On top of all you have to fill in the questionnaire in pencil and not in ink. My wife used a clutch pencil but they insisted to use a normal pencil. That makes it very easy indeed to change what they don't like.
This is again "Africa" at it's best, useless information.
