The Congress of South African Trade Unions’ (Cosatu) Patrick Craven on Wednesday said it was suspicious that only the laptops belonging to himself and his wife were taken in a house robbery.
Craven's house in Brackendowns, south of Johannesburg, was broken into on Tuesday night while the couple was asleep.
Craven’s activist wife works for the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA).
“What is very strange is that the only things that were stolen, apart from a few bottles of drink, were laptop computers, one of which belongs to Cosatu and the other belonging to Numsa, which my wife works for.
“This in itself looks very suspicious.”

In our area in the recent months only laptops and flat screen TV's have been stolen in about 98% of the robberies, so nothing funny IMO and he should only be concerned if there is something to hide on the laptop.

Might be suspicious if you had a whole bunch of laptops, but if its the only 2 of you in the house and you only had 2 laptops, and both were stolen what is suspicious about that. "Break in get what you can quick and fast, get the hell out." - Seems like a typical breaking and entering robbery to me.

If there was jewelry, cameras and other small, valuable items near the laptops then sure. But, TVs, hifis etc are bulky and difficult to get out of the house, over a wall etc, so not worth it. Laptops are high value, easy to take and don't raise much suspicion when someone is carrying one. Two guys walking down the street late at night with a 50" LCD and a hifi is going to get you caught..

Also, stop with the consiracy - what on earth could you have on that laptop worth stealing, the date of the next union strike?
