You see, I dont get that Pittbull.
Me and my wife and friend (all 3 of us play) have discusses this to no end in sight.
What we can basically agree on is one thing.
No matter what you prefer doing, its really the same thing as all the others.
It was better said by Gevlon on his blog, "Greedy Goblin". It comes down to the following.
Oh, so you leveled? So you think you're stronger now? You think you progressed somehow?
You didn't. In order for that to be true, it would need to be a static world. That is not what is happening however. You just turned lvl 45. So in order for you to still maintain an efficient xp per kill ratio, you can no longer kill lvl 42-44 mobs, but need to move on to lvl 43-45 mobs. Thus making your killing process the same amount harder as your progress. In truth, you have achieved nothing.
At this point, It feels like you should chime in and say "I know! Thats why I want to get endgame!".
But the EXACT same is true of endgame.
Oh... so youve cleared naxx and now have full T7?
So you feel stronger? Better?
But in order for you to now continue your progression, you will need to move up to Ulduar and fight mobs that have more HP, and do more damage, exactly proportionate to the upgrade you have perceived from gaining your last tier of gear. In actual fact, you have progressed to absolutely nothing.
It took you 4 mins to kill a boss when you first started Naxx.
It took you 4 mins to down a boss when you first started Ulduar.
It took you 4 mins to down a boss when you first started ToC.
etc etc.
As it seems quite clear, as you get stronger, so does your foes. You are in fact fighting a never-ending battle of pixel based LIES towards achievement.
Players were actually realizing this at one point, and Blizz picked up on it. So they created another pixel lie... Achievements.
What i'm trying to throw around as a thought is, I used to hate levelling and avoid it like a plague.
But what I have come to realize is that its not the levelling I hate. Its the group.
I dont miss seeing raidbosses and 15k crits. I dont miss seeing fire on the ground or whatever clever gimmick they threw in this time.
What I missed, the part that was missing, was the group element of it.
Leveling like that, all alone out there. Nobody to chat to or laugh at when they take a random +7 lvl mob's axe to the face... THATS what was missing.
Problem was solved.
Simply get one or to guildies together and set a "playdate" for your lowbies.
Every Wednesday and Sunday, from 1pm-4pm.
You dont play the toons any other time, and only if all people are present. And you go at it, together. You travel in a pack, you wreak small-scale havok on Ratchet just because you were there. You see how many times you can get your friend owned by Gadgetzan Bruisers by letting him "accidentally" flag himself.
Suddenly... you realise... This game could just as well have been Hello Kitty Adventure Island... it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it the WAY YOU ENJOY DOING IT.
Leveling isnt STUPID, or LAME, or PAINFUL.
What is STUPID, LAME, and PAINFUL... is YOUR METHODS OF LEVELING.
Hope i could bring some light to your worlds even if only a small one.
