Howzit guys,

Just a question about the Roku stick, a friend of mine is going to Canada and I wanna buy the Roku. They only sell the Roku 3500CA (Canadian version) so I wanna know will I be able to access the US Netflix and other content like Amazon video for example..?

you will have to use a service like Unotelly to access streaming service not available in SA

Yes I have Unotelly so just wanted to know if it matters if you buy a region specific Roku device, compared to the ones sold in the US

Don't think so. It all depends on your region when you create your Roku account. You may need to grab the VPN option and use that to setup the Roku account. After that you won't need the vpn any more.

amazon ships it to South Africa and I got mine within 3 days. No need for friends and stuff, and shipping didn't add too much onto the device's cost either.

To your original question. The Roku device uses Netflix and Netflix is the one that decides which region you're able to watch.

Ah ok, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks guys

I have read some reports that the universal search function does not work on some of the Canadian models. You should be able to create a US Roku account and access most of the channels. Some channels such as 4oD in the UK will probably not work on the stick. Here is some feedback on the stick ...
