Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV

A 441kW Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV for ‘subversive types’

It is safe to say that the ‘Black Badge’ treatment is somewhat out of character for Rolls Royce, but the prestigious British carmaker is quick to admit that it is squarely aimed at rebellious types.

The latest Rolls Royce model to receive the Black Badge of honour is the Cullinan SUV, and it’s described as the most urban expression of a Black Badge motor car yet, sporting a sinister new style as well as a more powerful engine and upgraded chassis.

Rolls Royce itself was at one stage in two minds about whether to create such a vehicle.

“Black Badge reflects the desires of a distinct group of Rolls-Royce clients: men and women who take risks, break rules and build success on their own terms,” said CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös.

“Indeed, before we launched Black Badge in 2016 the idea of creating a product that would satisfy this subversive cohort - that is highly dynamic and wilfully rebellious in aesthetic - caused a great deal of internal debate. However, once the marque’s designers, engineers and craftspeople began pursuing this dramatic alter ego, it became clear that these motor cars could not only exist comfortably beneath this revered and historic brand but they would define a new space within the super-luxury market,” he added.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan gets Black Badge treatment (with more power)!

Rolls-Royce has given its Cullinan the Black Badge treatment, which includes more menacing styling and yet more power from the twin-turbo V12.

Having debuted the Black Badge on the Wraith and Ghost in 2016 (and adding the Dawn in 2017), the reveal of the Cullinan variant effectively completes the family.

The 6,75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 gains not only an extra 21 kW and 50 N.m (for new peak outputs of 441 kW and 900 N.m) but also an “entirely new” exhaust system with a more sinister aural signature. The ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission, too, has been tweaked, as have various suspension and braking components.

The British firm expects the majority of buyers to specify the Black Badge’s signature hue (it is, as you've no doubt worked out, black), which comprises multiple layers of paint and lacquer “meticulously applied and hand-polished ten times”. The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, meanwhile, is presented in high-gloss black chrome, a finish that extends to its mounting plate.

More power for Rolls-Royce Cullinan V12

Rolls Royce has added a potent new edition of its gravel travel station wagon.

The British luxury brand’s Cullinan now has a new Black Badge variant and it is very much designed to appeal to those ‘new money’ Rolls Royce customers.

To move beyond its historic design values and established customer profile, Rolls Royce has allowed the company’s designers and craftspeople to embrace a more radical destiny. As an example of this, the Black Badge Cullinan rolls on unique 22-inch alloy wheels and features a darkened Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. Its famous chrome grille is also darkened and this Black Badge Cullinan becomes the first Rolls Royce to feature red brake callipers.

Cullinan SUV leads Rolls Royce sales surge to record numbers

This is news of the kind that is becoming common among the premium car companies. Rolls-Royce recorded a 25% jump in sales in 2019, underpinned by solid demand for its first-ever SUV, the Cullinan.

The 116-year-old British company announced on Tuesday that it had sold 5152 cars in 2019, an all time record, and up from the 4107 units sold in the previous year.

"Worldwide demand last year for our Cullinan SUV has driven this success and is expected to stabilise in 2020," Chief Executive Officer Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said in a statement.

The Cullinan was unveiled in 2018. Although it's not the type of vehicle that you would expect to take into the bush, the Cullinan was designed from the outset to be a serious off-roader. Furthermore, its 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine has been re-tuned to deliver 420kW at 5000 revs and peak torque (850Nm) at just 1600rpm, and it drives all four wheels (a first for Rolls-Royce) via uprated propshafts and all-wheel steering.

do wonder if the Cullinan will turn into the new RR silver shadow?

IE they overproduce such a car and many afterwards end up on the second hand market?
just like the silver shadow ended up being like.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan fuels firm's 'remarkable' growth

Huge popularity of the luxury SUV helps British firm achieve record sales in 2019

Rolls-Royce boss Torsten Muller-Otvos says the key driver for the marque’s “remarkable” 25% sales growth in 2019 has been unprecedented demand for its rule-breaking Cullinan SUV.

The Goodwood-based company posted total sales of 5125 units, its best-ever performance in 116 years. Last year sales of the super-luxury 4x4, which was launched in 2018, accounted for around 40% of total Rolls volume, close to 2000 cars a year. That performance eclipsed a record mark set in 2018.

Muller-Otvos told Autocar the latest expansion was “a performance of an altogether different magnitude to any previous year’s sales success”, but still vowed not to forget his mission to keep the brand rare and exclusive.

According to Muller-Otvos around 80% of Cullinan customers are new to the brand, so the vast majority of SUV sales have been incremental.

“Our success makes me especially we glad we took time to answer the critical questions around the launch of this model,” he said. “I always believed it was best to join a party when it’s in full swing.”

After 11 years Rolls-Royce has ended production of the Ghost saloon, its best-selling model of all time. Its replacement, built on the same flexible aluminium spaceframe as the Cullinan and second generation Phantom, will be unveiled in the summer, and earliest production cars should reach their owners by the end of the year.

Rolls-Royce smashes its all-time annual worldwide sales record

Last year saw Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has achieve a new annual global sales record, surpassing the previous year’s figure by 25% the firm says.

According to the luxury automaker, sales have increased across all regions, while a significant growth in demand was reported in its key markets. The North American market was accountable for roughly a third of global sales (1 717 vehicles), followed by China and Europe completing the top three.

So how many luxury vehicles did Rolls-Royce sell in 2019? A total of 5 152 vehicles bearing the Spirit of Ecstasy were delivered to customers in more than 50 countries via its global network of 135 delearships. According to Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, the record-breaking sales figure was driven by the high demand for the Cullinan (a Black Badge variant joined the line-up end of last year). The company’s first-ever SUV is the fastest-selling Rolls-Royce model in history, the British marque said.

Mansory Coastline Rolls-Royce Cullinan Is NOT Subtle

Every year, Mansory bring out some seriously over the top creations at the Geneva Motor Show and even though the show did not take place, they still went all the way on this Rolls-Royce Cullinan build.

It is called the Mansory Coastline and takes the already polarizing Rolls Cullinan to a whole new level.

The designers subtly reshaped the front of the Rolls-Royce-SUV by redesigning the front apron with larger air intakes and a new carbon fibre lightweight bonnet. This does give the SUV a more dynamic face but the changes certainly do not end there.

In addition, the side skirts have been redesigned so that on the one hand they calm the airflow on the flanks and on the other hand they make the Coastline appear both lower and more elongated. To reduce lift forces at the rear axle, the designers mounted a spoiler lip on the original tailgate and adapted it visually to the likewise redesigned rear apron.

SPOFEC Gives Rolls-Royce Cullinan More Grunt And Girth

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is not exactly what you would call subtle but for a few individuals out there, they need something a little more exclusive and this is where the likes of SPOFEC step in.

It has received the OVERDOSE widebody kit which includes a whole host of components manufactured in OEM quality from Pur-R-Rim in order to achieve a perfect fit and surface quality.

The front gets a completely new bumper to give the Cullinan a more distinctive face and to reduce front-axle lift at high speeds. At the rear, the SUV now measures 2,12 meters wide (12cm over standard) thanks to the substantially flared wheel arches. These gaping spaces are filled with massive 24″SPOFEC SP2 wheels manufactured by Vossen.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Scale Model Costs Around R650k Depending On Spe

The Cullinan SUV was critical in helping Rolls-Royce set a new sales record last year and now, customers will be able to miniaturize the Cullinan into a 1:8 scale model.

For those of you who know scale models, 1:8 is not exactly small but then again neither is the real thing. Like its cars, Rolls takes its time building the miniature Cullinan, and customers can customize them to match their real-world models.

Each model is handcrafted to the customer’s specification, with over 1,000 individual components available. That could make the build process take up to 450 hours, which, according to the company, is over half the time the company needs to build the real Cullinan. There are around 40,000 colours to choose from, too, or customers can replicate their own hand-painted bespoke finish. Inside, Rolls can match trim and upholstery, including piping, stitching and specific types of wood, to the tee. Naturally, all four doors and boot open to give you a better view.
