I see some people are having stability issues, especially Pretoria region. But I am in Roodepoort and having similar issues. Cant be international capacity cause I am at the moment only needing local URGENTLY! I get connected for 1 minute or two and then disconnected, when connected, bandwidth slow anyway.

Logged with 155 yesterday, phoned again now this morning and got told.... "we looking into it", how long is it going to take? I need my connectivity NOW!

v3g, hello, long time... whats going on here?

Howzit Harley

I live in Constantia Village (near Allens Nek), and have had various stability issues the last six months. Most of the time I've phoned 155 and they've often told me that there is some problem with the cel in my area, and that they'd look into it. And it has always gotten better again, after a day or two.

BUT at the moment my connection seems fairly stable, if exceptionally slow on international sites.

Harley79, you know then. Thought we lost you somewhere, glad not so. :)
Same with Rabbitdog....wonder what happened to him

There were a lot of upgrades done the last few days and it looks like it threw a spanner in the works.

Grubsner is seeing the same in Vanderbijl Park (the 2 minute disconnect) and in general the network seems to have more problems over the last few days.

I don't think I've got your contact details anymore, won't you PM or e-mail me and I'll get the radio guys to contact you.

Harley79, In the meantime, won't you do a test please?

Open a DOS box in the background and run a 'ping -t smtp.vodacom.co.za', i.e. send a continous data stream out.

Let me know if the connection is stable or still drops after 2 minutes.

Tx!

I have been seeing a constant bandwidth through-put reduction since yesterday around 15h00 on GPRS in Sasolburg. Last night on 3G, in Vanderbijlpark, the data through-put was comparable to GPRS and GPRS had no through-put at all. This was on local sites.

The 3G connection was also contantly dropping connections. When it does connect the data is only stable for 1 to 2 minutes as Vodacom3G suggested in this thread.

GPRS in Sasolburg is currently dropping the connection within minutes requiring a reconnect.

On GPRS at 9h10 23 Aug 2005:

155 said Vodacom is looking in the problem

Okay Harley, scratch my last post - my connection is now stable for about 120 seconds at a time. VERY annoying to be disconnected constantly. 155 is, according to them "dealing with some issues". I hope it has nothing to do with their personal issues :)

Hopefully this is resolved soon, together with the slow international access. Here's to hoping!

v3g, not in roodepoort at the moment, currently in eastgate. so far so good but only been online for about 5 mins so far so here is to hoping. I will recheck when back on that side of the world. Speed seems to be much better here in comparison to last little bit on the west. Will pm you my details again

Aish! This has now reached the point of ridicule. I can't even send e-mail anymore, as my connection to smtp.vodacom.co.za times out every time! And reaching sites like ebay.co.uk is out of the question.

At the moment I'm better of on dial-up than on 3G! As a matter of fact, my V3G connection just failed again in the middle of writing this reply.

Harley, please let me know what the situation is when you get back to civilisation (West Rand), as I'd really like to compare what's happening on my machine with yours.

Hi v3g

I am still here (just been too busy for a chat)
At the moment i'm on dialup. my 3G connection is dead, and smtp dead as well.

Good luck
:)
