Roof insulation.

My mom-in-law just had 145mm installed by Homeinsulations. They charged R85 per sq

Also had 145mm isotherm installed by HomeInsulations. Took 2 hours for 90sqm and they wrapped the geyser for free. They were also very thorough and left no gaps. Only gripe was that they covered my trapdoor :wtf:

Overall it's made HUGE difference in both winter and summer. Worth every cent.

Do they vacuum the ceiling before installation and can they bird proof the roof?

R17 to R30 per sqm?!!
:wtf:

This is what I did...
- Buy a leaf blower (~R600 for the 3000W Ryobi)
- Hire someone for 3 hours to run the leaf blower in vacuum mode (~R300)
Plus you get a leaf blower to use for (possibly) many years

At their prices, my 120sqm ceiling might have cost R2040 to R3600 to clean!!
I paid R200 cos I had a leaf blower already

remember, you're not cleaning it like you'd clean your lounge floor ... you just want all the real crap out before laying down the insulation.
3 hours,
a person willing to work properly,
and a leaf blower
...will easily get the job done well

Ryobi for R600 on special...

Did you manage to locate the receipt? Does it make a difference to the temperature in your house?
Not yet.

The insulation is the key. I've recorded a 7°C difference between inside and outside.

The vent will help as it gets rid of hot air.

The one thing that I have noticed is my roof does not creek so much when the wind blows.

A whirly bird might be better for extracting heat from the roof space.

I had 145mm Isotherm installed today and there's a difference of 6-10 degrees between the temp inside and the temp outside.
It's a lot more comfortable in the house now.
Outside is 28 currently, inside is 22.
Used to be 28 outside, and inside 28-30 due to the convection effect :P

Paid R85 per sqm at 145sqm = 12,325 ZAR
