Oh thanks... Just what I want to hear. That drill will vibrate all the way through my skull... its going to fun :(

A root canal on a front-ish tooth isn't fun, but only because it feels so invasive - they drill out the entire root, and it's rather deep, so it just feels weird. But it's not a bad procedure overall.

I had a root canal last year and the only thing that really hurt was the bill - about R6k. And I had run out of medical savings then.

I need to get a crown put on it this year actually.

I mean, dont get me wrong, it wasnt a pleasant experience, but not the worst I've had. Do it sooner rather than later - the longer you leave it, the worse it gets.

I got one quite a few years ago and I actually enjoyed going to the dentist. Took a few visits to sort out and what was left of the tooth ended up breaking and cost me about R3500 to fix and now the crown has a leak so I need it redone but pain - nah.

The dentist won't remove the nerve until the infection has been sorted - expect a course of antibiotics first, and probably the root-canal next week.

Not sure what it is, but I had a root canal done a few years ago, it was the most painful thing I have experience. The first Dentist gave me an anaesthetic, did not work at all, I think she gave me three injections, I could feel everything, gave me another injection, no help at all and what make it worse that I have some spasm problem and could not sit still or keep calm. She sent me to a specialist, the same happened, the anaesthetics did not do anything, I could feel all the grinding and scratching. Went to another Dentist, he got the job done, I think the only reason why he got it right was that most of the nerves were removed by the previous guys. Now I have to go again, have a big whole in another tooth, and it a hell lot of pain sometimes. Currently using Sensodyne and Listerine which helps. I am looking for alternative ways of anaesthetics, posssible full anaesthetics in a hospital.... But good luck to you,

My 12 year old daughter had root canal last week without anaesthetic - she said it wasn't sore - believe me, she would have had no problem punching the dentist if it was!

If you are very nervous ask for dormicum script beforehand. You will be in lala land and won't care what's going on.

I dunno about this..

I went and even with the injections (which seemed not to be working on me, which he said they were) I was feeling pain in my mouth I hadn't felt ever before, I generally didn't mind dentists before that day, but totally despise them now. I take care of my teeth a lot more than I used to ....

Its really not bad at all.

I was scared to death by internet talk before removing my wisdom teeth and in the end it wasn't even half as bad as people made it out to be....

I had similar issues years back (broke and then went to the dentist for the first time in about 8 years).

Dr Louis Furter in the orchards is quite good and I kinda doubt you will end up going the full root canal way.

He cleaned out the holes, did a 3d scan, cnc'd new tooth pieces (let me watch the machine in action as well), clicked them in, glued them in, grinded them to shape and done.

Week or two it was sensitive but then all was (and still is) well.

She had had an abcess removed from the same tooth two weeks prior and he explained that he had removed the nerve - therefore, no nerve, no pain.
