North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, says they are determined to get to the core of the rot in the police service.
This comes after two senior policemen, stationed at the Wolmaranstadt Police Station, and eleven suspects, were arrested by the Organised Crime Task Team for a spate of bank and business break-ins in the province.
They are alleged to have escorted members of a syndicate to and from targeted banks and businesses at night. Apparently they would mislead anyone who responded to an alarm being set off into believing that it was a false alarm.
"There is no place in the police service for those who hunt with the hounds and run with the hares. We are determined to get to the core of the rot in order to flush it out.
"Our national effort to win the war against crime cannot be compromised by scoundrels whose days within the police service are numbered," said Yawa.
The suspects, most of whom are from Klerksdorp, are linked to 15 bank and business break-ins and robberies in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality area.
During the arrest, police confiscated three vehicles, a BMW X5, VW Golf 3 and Audi A4, 317 cellphones valued at over R150 000, furniture and an undisclosed amount of cash. - BuaNews
