Waiting for the one who needs pictures.
Is that not exactly what happens there? You have to wait until a car, like the Polo, blocks the red path and take your change... or until some red car gives you a gap. That is what is happening at most of the traffic circles in Cape Town's Northern 'burbs.
Pictures incoming, cause what you say still does not sound right, I still say, its exactly a 3 way stop if congested:

Have to pretend its very congested like it is in the mornings. So I am yellow. While I am still waiting for red (who was at his yield line first) to clear the intersection, the next car is already at reds yield line. I am still waiting at my yield line for red to clear the circle area. In the direction which me and red are traveling there is backup from the next intersection into this intersection. If I do what it sounds like you propose, I'd be waiting forever for no cars to be at reds yield.

The view from reds side.
I realised that I've never experienced nor seen a traffic circle before!![]()
I was trying to get my head around the difference between a traffic circle and roundabout and I couldn't figure it out what everyone's talking about.
In seeing these pictures posted, I realised that I've never experienced nor seen a traffic circle before!![]()
Why is it that people think a roundabout's is a 4-way stop!?!
So if you can use the outside lane for one or two exits, why not for three? The way i understand it:
In a two lane circle, outside lane is only for exit 1 or 2(turning left or going straight over the circle)
Inside lane is for exit 3 and 4(turning right or going back the way you came)
So if you can use the outside lane for one or two exits, why not for three?
Treat it as a double lane road, use your indicators and check for douchebags. It's not that difficult.

Good points...but I'm going to stay part part of the "problem". It's a free for all survival of the bravest thing here in Jo'burg anyway. Don't be a dick...that's how I approach it.

Yeah...oh well. Just don't ever speed or hog the fast lane or anything.

/curtseyAnd there ladies and gentlemen is a prime example of why we have an issue on our roads in South Africa with people not obeying the law. "If everyone else does it, then why can't I."
Traffic Circle. You're not a GPS.
