I have 2 ADSL routers a old Billion and a Linksys.

When I change from Telkom ISP login to Afrihost, and reboot the router, it does not connect to Afrihost, if I leave it for 15 -20 minutes then try again, then usually it will connect fine to Afrihost, same issue when going from Afrihost back to Telkom.

Is there a way of being able to just change the login details and connect to a different ISP without this lenghtly disruption period.

Current solution is to have first router setup for Telkom, and the second setup for Afrihost.

This works fine, except that it is difficult/uncomfortable to swap cables/power supplies, where the router is located. But works well, swap router out, reboot and ISP is changed.

I am going to get an OpenWeb account, and want an easier and simpler method of changing between ISP's than swapping out routers, besides I don't have a 3rd router to setup for OpenWeb.

Suggestions please.

Are you able to dial up via Windows when swapping routers (You'll need to set your router to bridge or half-bridge mode).

Yes, I can, problem is the modems, if you change username and password for another ISP and reboot the router, it does not connect. If left switched off for 15 - 20 minutes, then switch on it connects. My quess is that DNS is persisting, on the router, and thus, the lack of connectivity.

Niether router offers the facility of adding additional DNS ...

Why do you reboot the router? You can just enter the new account details and apply? I have swapped between Telkom and vox account like this a few times. Works immediately.

I have not had that much luck - only way I can connect to a different ISP is by entering new password and username, then switching the router of, go make myself a pot of tea, let it draw, oour, and enjoy with some biscuts, wash the teapot and cup, put everything away and go switch the router on, and then wait for the router to get a stable connection, then switch my computer on. Having two routers, each setup for a different ISP is the easyest/fastest way I have of changing ISP, I.e. switch og router, move wires to second router, switch on. Which is a right royal pain in the ass to do.

That does not sound right. Maybe a new router will help. I just log into the router, edit the connection with new username and password and apply. The modem does a quick apply, like 10 seconds or so, and the new account is working.
