Router keeps on disconnecting devices when too many connected

I have to reboot my router on a regular basis because it just drops the connection to various wireless devices in my house (especially when more devises hop on the network). My LAN connection how ever is not effected. There are a bus load of wifi points in my area. The router is maybe five years old. There is no option to program it to reboot daily. I have changed to different channel numbers a couple of times but this does not help. Is it time to buy a new router and what should I get?

Sorry to say but that router is a bit on the low end, its not even gigabit.

Since you say their are a lot of wifi networks around you should get a dual band router.

Whats your budget and what internet are you using?

I have a fibre 30Mb line at the moment. R2500 is where I feel comfortable but will go higher just to solve this annoying problem.
 
I think buying an extender may be a cheaper option as it's a few hundred bux
Ie: half the devices connect to the extender and the extender connects to the router.

NB: Not my area of expertise so wait for someone to confirm if my suggestion would work

Joh, going straight for the big guy there.:eek: That will definitely solve the problem, but there should be cheaper ways :)

I was running the same piece of sh*t TP-Link routers for the longest time. They lock up when they have too many devices connecting/disconnecting or if you create too many TCP sessions over the wifi (e.g. torrenting).

Long story short I spent like R8k and bought myself the whole Unifi stack (USG, 8-port Switch, and a bunch of long range APs).

In retrospect, perhaps a bit overkill and pretty complicated to set up for the less technical. I've heard good things about the TP-Link Deco Mesh range - get the Wifi 6 one for some future proofing.
