Is the Tenda crap?

Its performance is inversely proportional to the number of devices it has. Mine overheated as well. I now have in handing in the breeze from a beam in a corner of the house on its cable providing access to a few smart lights.
When I have a big bonus I'll buy some UNIFI flying saucers.

I was running the same piece of sh*t TP-Link routers for the longest time. They lock up when they have too many devices connecting/disconnecting or if you create too many TCP sessions over the wifi (e.g. torrenting).

Long story short I spent like R8k and bought myself the whole Unifi stack (USG, 8-port Switch, and a bunch of long range APs).

In retrospect, perhaps a bit overkill and pretty complicated to set up for the less technical. I've heard good things about the TP-Link Deco Mesh range - get the Wifi 6 one for some future proofing.

Have the UNIFI APs at the office.

I have my own gateways that are based on Linux that I use but this guy says this:

You talking about WiFi 6 - that is a different thing. It is IP V6 capable.
