Hi, My Adsl router is working perfectly in terms of making a connection to the internet BUT I'm unable to get into the router settings via my browser.

Router is a Telkom ADSL Router POTS (1 Port)

I get a "504 Gateway Timeout" when I try and connect to the router although my connection to the internet works perfectly. I'm using the default gateway address to try to connect to the router. I did this in the past without a problem.

My firewall and anti-virus are turned off.

Called Telkom and they said all I can do is hard reset the router via the little pen hole to reset to factory settings BUT there is the chance I will be unable to use setup the router again if the settings are still inaccessible after the hard reset.

Anyone have any other ideas please?

could be your NIC?

I tried from multiple PC's :( Also tried bypassing my hub/switch and connecting directly to the single port on the router as well but still no luck.

Surely if the router was faulty then there is no way I'd be able to successfully connect to the net via the router?

eish, if it was me I'd just leave it be ..... what if the reset leaves you without a net connection :o

 It's a catch-22 :( As long as I can't get access to the router settings then I can't perform remote resets which means when I'm away from the router (like now when the burglar alarm is active) I can't get to the router when the connection gets dropped. Maybe I should emigrate to somewhere I don't need a burglar alarm :D

"So why did you come to Canada sir"
"Well, I couldn't access my router for remote resets see ..... "

:D

My telkom router/s packed up after 2 months all 4 of them and then i just had enough and went straight to a big name in routers LINKSYS FTW .

Take it int to Telkom and get another one? Just break it good and proper first.

Which browser are you using? Are you using the SAIX cache proxy? If you are disable the proxy details or add your router IP as a local address and enable proxy bypass for local addresses.

Even try a different browser.

Some teklom techie peeps install saix's proxy into your browser proxy settings, check that. If it's there, it's a good thing, but check that the ip address of your router is added to the "skip" list at the bottom of the proxy configure page.

Oh .. soz .. that's what Juggy said.

I think it's like around 5/6 years old so the warranty days are long over.

Tried FF and IE but still no go. Removed the cache setting. Tried adding it as a local site. Still no go. Guess it must be faulty :(

If it's 5/6 years old it IS time to replace it, no matter what side you look at. I'd go for something like the Netgear 834GT or maybe the wired version of it if you don't need the wireless access point (saves you around R300).

Mine does this often, turning it off and back on usually fixes it, but you've probably already tried that.
