Hi Guys

Does anybody know, what make and model router Telkom normally issues with their packages? I've heard its not great, but keen to know what it is.

I have a Huawei B315 which has 4 LAN ports, USB port, sim slot which is LTE.

Should I use the B315, as I purchased it, and it wasn't cheap, but would like to know if what's it like.

Thanks

I think generally it is the Netgear N300 (Model: DGN2200M)

But not sure if is for everybody, might differ from region to region?

The router isn't bad, haven't had any trouble with it.

But if you have a better router, you should use it.

Looks like the WiFi will be better on the Huawei and has faster Ethernet ports.

But you cannot use it as an ADSL router.

oh i see, i thought it was an ADSL router, that can crossover as a mobile solution with the Sim option also

I don't think so,
Looking at the ports at the back, there is only a "Tel" port and not ADSL,
so I assume you can plug in a VoIP phone...

There is also a WAN/LAN port which means, you can plug in a LAN cable from your
ADSL router and use the Huawei as an AP to boost your WiFi etc.

aah i see, makes sense i suppose :) Bit of a bummer that, so if i cant use that as an ADSL router, so should i sell it, or what is the benefits of keeping it?

You can sell it,
Or use it as the WiFi repeater if you have a big home, I doubt the standard router will be powerful enough,
If you have a lot of walls...

You can make the decision after your get the ADSL router.

Okay thanks, will have a look at how the Router works when its installed. If its good enough, ill maybe just keep the other one as an extender anyway

im still interested to hear from somebody, that recently installed, as to what modem they received from Telkom. Ive heard alot of complaints around those modems, so need to know up front if i have to purchase another one, before they install. As i dont want to be left frustrated by their supplied modem
