Hi,

I recently purchased a Linkysys WAG160N ADSL router.
The issue I am having is that I am randomly losing internet connectivity for usually about 30 - 60 seconds at a time -- after which connectivity is automatically restored again. It is quite annoying especially during my online gaming sessions...

My ISP is telkom and FNB Connect -- it happens with both. I've never had such issues with my previous router which was a siemanns. Therefore I think it is the router itself or a setting on the router.
Latest router firmware is installed.

Any help would be appreciated...

Tx,

Post your line attenuations, SNR margins and line speeds here.

My guess is that your SNR margin is below 10dB.

Turns out this info ain't easy to get hold of on some of the Linksys models. The web admin interface doesn't provide this information. After some googling, I found a link to a hidden to a unlinked/"secret" page in the WAG160N router's web admin interface.

Attenuations and SNR (this is all i could find)
Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 26.3 dB 12.0 dB
DSL Attenuation: 10.0 dB 5.0 dB
DSL Transmit Power: -4.4 dBm 4.1 dBm

Line Speeds:
SA
Download Speed: 872 kbps (109 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 423 kbps (52.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 63 ms

Int
Download Speed: 876 kbps (109.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 385 kbps (48.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 247 ms

Hi there

I can replicate that here... 60-120 seconds on mine. Its to do with the modem inside...

The WAG1xx routers have issues.. pm me or post answers to the following questions:

1. What DSL modulation is set?
2. Is it set to auto-detect the DSL i.e. fills in VPI and VCI by itself?

I have a possible solution that worked on mine. These routers are not 100% compatible with South African ADSL it seems... But I can try and help

Your noise margins seem rather low (but still pretty good though) for your otherwise awesome ADSL stats for a 1Mbps ADSL line!

Do you still have your Siemens ADSL modem?

If not, are all your telephones plugged in via an ADSL/POTS filter?

1. Multimode
2. Auto detect is disabled. Current VPI = 8, VCI = 35.

Basically the factory default settings...

Tx for helping out, looking forward to your solution -- however part of me is thinking of taking the thing back and getting some other make / model...

My line is awesome...except the random re-setting of my router... :)
Still have the Siemens..

I think Koosi may be unto something -- have seen similar threads of people experiencing same issue but no clear resolution

Get another router like the TP-Link 8960N if its the router at fault and never had problems with my TP-Link router.

Your router stats are pretty good so that isn't the problem, I presume you using 1 Mbit line?

I have the same thing on my DSL 2500U

I installed the latest firmware but it still resets every now and then

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 20.9 16.1
Attenuation (dB): 41.5 20.5
Output Power (dBm): 2.2 0.0
