Hi,

I was hoping you guys might be able to recommended me a decent router.

I'm looking for a mid range router with certain capabilities.
-Integrated ADSL modem
-Compatible with OpenWRT/DDWRT
-5ghz WiFi
-at least 600mbps WiFi bandwidth

Yup, I'm not even sure if a router like this is available in SA. But if you do have any recommendations that would be great.

Thanks!

Try Asus AC68U. The firmware is based on dd-wrt. It has all your WiFi requirements. Bit pricey though. Or you could just directly get a linksys stock dd-wrt router, which is more expensive.

RT is just the router. Op wants ADSL modem as well.

Look at the Asus n55u.

My bad on the RT placement, thanks for spotting my mistake. There is a DSL variant of the router I mentioned. AC68U

Thanks for the advice, the N55U looks great - although a little pricey :p
But I appreciate the input!

Cant go wrong with the router. The only time I ever reset mine is loadshedding.

Damn, that sounds amazing - my current router is constantly disconnecting from the dsl line and I have to restart it virtually every day!

I have a TP-Link and I'm very happy with it.

I'm sure you can find what you are looking for whit this search on the Nivo page: http://www.nivo.co.za/#c/l/networki...pe~adsl/connectivity~wireless/sort.by~price/0

I have this one, and I'm very happy with it (and it seems it adheres to all your requirements except maybe for the Open WRT? Edit: no it does, found it on the OpenWRT hardware list): http://www.nivo.co.za/buy~tp.link.archer.c5.ac1200.wireless.dual.band.gigabit.router~p51286

Hey thanks, Haven't checked this thread in a while but that last one looks just about right!

Came across this one ASUS DSL-N14U on takealot. Is it worthwhile buying it?

Nothing special. Just 3 or 4 devices. The furthest device will probably be 5m's away.

I have a dlink dir-825 that's been running problem free since 2010 with dd-wrt firmware. Ordered a tp-link archer c9 yesterday. Going to boost the WiFi signal to piss off the neighbour that keeps hogging the channels on 2.4ghz.
The first requirement for any router is it must support dd-wrt for a customised experience that suits you. Then it must be fast enough (the right chips for stability and speed) to not annoy the **** out of you.
