Can anyone give me the correct settings for Telkomsa internet for this router?

Here's how it would be done on a D-Link DSL-2500U for an Mweb account, so I'd guess that its similar for the DSL-2640U on Telkom:

in the Web interface, do the following:
  1. Go to Advanced Setup -> WAN
  2. Remove all existing WAN interfaces
  3. Add a WAN interface
    • Port=0, VPI=8, VCI=35, Service Category=UBR without PCR, Unselect Enable Quality of Service
    • Select PPPoE over Ethernet (PPPoE) & Encapsulation Mode=LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
    • Enter your username ([email protected] *) & password, Leave Authentication mode=auto, Leave Obtain default gateway automatically selected, Select Keep alive PPP connection, Leave Dial on demand unselected, Leave Static IP address unselected, Select Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports (this is for half-bridging / PPPoE Relaying / PPPoE Passthrough), Leave MTU=1492
    • Select Enable NAT, Select Enable Firewall, Unselect Enable IGMP Multicast, Select Enable WAN Service, Set Service name to something descriptive like: PPPoE_Mweb
  4. Save & Reboot

Now under Device Info, all the fields should be filled in!
And under Diagnostics, everything should PASS, except for the 2x ATM OAM F5 tests.
...
* Instead of the username being something like [email protected], it would be something like [email protected] I suppose.

If you're using the D-Link router for a Wireless Access Point, then please ensure that you are using WPA2-PSK security.

Thanks Pada,

Your setup worked perfectly! (Once Telkom actually sorted out my line)

I now have a working 10M line! - Only problem is that COD BO is now pinging higher than ever before (I used to use a Vodacom 3G connection). Have tried to do all the port forwarding (based on google searches) but to no avail. Any1 know if Telkom perhaps blocks these?

no , telkom dont peer with mweb, you cannot play BO on telkom account.

you need mweb account if you want best ping or and isp that peer with mweb.

My pleasure :)

You'll have to get an IS (local only) account if you want to play on the Mweb servers.
If you're in Western Cape, then you can also get a Web Africa local only account to play on the Mweb servers.

OK.

Right, so in other words I have actually wasted my time and money then.

Before I had the Tkom account I used my cell phone (MTN) and this worked absolutely beautifully! (Had pings of about 50ms).

Are MTN affiliated with MWEB?

No MTN is not affiliated with Mweb, but they are peering locally with Mweb - unlike Telkom/SAIX.

If you're with FNB then you can get a 3GB FNB Connect ADSL account for about R80, 5GB for about R120. FNB use Mweb. All linked with your online banking.

3GB for R80 is quite expensive to say the least!

IS is peering locally with Mweb, so rather just get an IS local only account if you want to play on Mweb servers. You can get like 10GB IS Local only for R70.

It's convenient, and many FNB users don't know about it. :p Also unshaped, supposedly.

Hi guys, not to hijack OP thread, but please can anyone help me to get remote desktop working from Windows 7,I normally use a Siemens Giga 762 which is very easy to setup, but this dsl2640U just wont work, keeps saying machine not found.
I even contacted Dlink support and their suggestions and firmware update did not help.
What I have done so far, setup a dyndns account, entered that in router, entered my pc ip under virtual server,in the NAT section, left remote IP blank, thanks in advance and sorry once more to OP,but it is driving me nuts not getting this configured.

Gman2008: just create a new thread, because there are just way too many things to consider with port forwarding.

If it is Windows' remote desktop, then try adding a port forward for TCP Port 3389 to your PC.
Also, try disabling that PC's firewall completely and ensure that it has Internet access.

hi everybody
i have a problem with a Dlink dsl modem 2640u.
i connected to a vpn server with a pc (which connected to 2640u with cable) and when i want to connect to the same vpn server with another laptop which connected to the same 2640u by wireless, I can't do that. but with another internet access (like gprs) i can connect to that vpn server at the same time. why???????
