So I gave Mweb a call asking them to upgrade my line to 6Mbps. After a day or so they call me back saying that Telkom have informed them that the max my line to achieve is 4Mbps. Fair enough and I left it there.

BUT THEN

I log into my router to be greeted with this:
Line Speed.jpg

So my router is telling me that the max I can achieve is the speed I actually wanted but apparently it's not so.

Thoughts?

I have checked on the telkom website to see what the maximum speed available to you is.

According to the their site, 4Mb is the maximum speed you can get.

i checked this on www.telkom/checkadsl

You are on G.dmt as well, not even ADSL 2+

That could possibly be why. They might not have 6Mbit profile for G.dmt - I am not too sure what Telkom's system is like with regards to G.dmt, ADSL 2+ and VDSL and the speed profiles and where their limits are.

My max attainable rate is 50Mbit down and 9Mbit up, although Telkom won't let me get anything greater than 40Mbit down and 3Mbit up... So yeah

The "attainable rate" as quote by your router is just a calculation based on the line statistics to say what should theoretically be possible.

It's not a value provided from the Exchange but calculated by your router internally.

It does not mean that's what the Exchange supports.
