Hi everyone,

I have a little issue with iBurst. When I'm connected via my router some sites are a bit slow. Using the usb the same sites fly. I was wondering if there are any "tweaks" I can make to my router's settings to increase the browsing speed? My mtu is set to 1352.

Thanks

On some routers, the MTU setting can be changed. This resolved the issues I was having.

Sparky_za is right. Your router's mtu must be set to 1352 - it doesn't really make much of a difference changing it on your pc.

Thanks so much for the Opendns tip. Works like a charm!

...and just like that it went pear shaped. Everything works fine on the usb, but webpages don't want to load on via the router :/ I tried different mtu settings, its back on 1352 now. I don't know what else it could be :/

Aai tog, the Great Big Mouth can be so blind sometimes. :D

JHBGirl - How did you get OpenDNS to work with that cursed proxy in the way?

You can't use OpenDNS in JHB...

Change your DNS to : Verizon JHB 196.7.142.132 (P), faster than iBurst DNS, however slower than OpenDNS.

Joburg iBurst is running through a proxy and it causes intermitted connectivity issues with the Open DNS service.

You could use Joburg iBurst DNS 196.30.31.193 (S) as a secondary if you want.

For those in Cape Town:
Verizon CTN: 196.7.0.138 (P)
iBurst CTN: 196.46.70.1 (S)

Best combination in CTN:
Open DNS: 208.67.220.220 or 208.67.222.222 (P)
Verizon CTN: 196.7.0.138 (S)

Ping both Open DNS IP’s to see which IP delivers the best results for you.

Well maybe it was my imagination, it seemed better :/ Anyway, those jhb dns settings doesn't help either. It's like something is completely blocking traffic. The only thing that works w/o a hitch is mirc. Nothing else loads.

What a DNS Server does...

Hi there

Keep in mind that a DNS server is responsible for translating the alphabetic characters, into an IP address (in short) – so you will only notice a difference when requesting a page (once the title appears on the top of the browser window, the DNS request has been terminated), the loading of the actual page is signal / bandwidth dependent, i.e. Tower, iBurst, Verison, etc...

Okay, I added those settings on my router, instead of my LAN properties and it's a little faster now. Thanks.
What's up with iBurst, why doesn't the dns resolve properly when you use a router?

Please do, I hate to pay almost R1000 a month and then I can't use half of my 6 gig :/

I know but the rest of the family get very p*ssed off w/o their internet :P

MORE GIGS FOR ME! :P

Try adding the opendns settings to each PC's LAN settings of the PCs' in your network and see if that helps.
Even if the router is still set to the iburst DNS the opendns will overide it.

You can test this by going to the opendns site and running their test to see if it is working.

http://www.opendns.com/start/windows_xp.php

look at the bottom of that page or go directly to:

http://welcome.opendns.com/

to test whether it is working or not.
