Routers for Iburst Desktop modem

The only required features are customizeable MTU settings,PPPoE capability and a WAN port which both those have

I tend to like the units from Uniterm Direct

TP-Link are easy to use basic routers, but if you are looking for something more configurable (and with a steeper learning curve) look at the MikroTik routers.

I have a Linksys WRT54GL I'll be selling if anybody is interested. This is one of the best routers for this in my opinion, has Linux based firmware so can be changed to custom firmwares that add lots of cool features. I'm currently running Tomato 1.28 on mine.

router for iburst desktop modem

hi

can anyone please help me. what is the cheapest option to go for to make my connection wireless? i have an iburst desktop modem connecting to my pc with an ethernet port. currently using an adhoc connection to share it but my galaxy tab just refuses to connect or even pick up any adhoc connections so would like to get a router. help please anyone

You need to buy a WAN Router. It usually comes with 4 regular Ethernet ports, and a 5th WAN Ethernet port, which is where you plug your iBurst modem into. You get WAN routers with built in WiFi. You then configure the router to dial your iBurst modem using a PPPOE connection, using your iBurst username and password. Works pretty well. Cost of router is anywhere between R500-R1000

But iBurst blows. If you can get ADSL, even an entry level 384kbps ADSL line, you'll be doing yourself a big favour. Spend your R500-R1000 on an ADSL modem instead. 384kbps lines will be upgraded to 1mbps in October, and then iBurst will suck even more.

It's a dying technology not worth investing in, unless of course, you have no other options.

@Saajid i've actually had adsl and changed to iburst and i dont regret my decision at all. i've been with iburst for almost a year now and havent had any issues. i use it at my home and business and i get great speeds and it only costs me R198 for 20gb a month which is very cheap

Try these:
- Linksys WRT54GL using Tomato formware
- AiRouter
- WNR3500L
- RB751
