Hi.

I've just extended my home network by adding a Linksys WRT54GL in the study, linked to my main Billion 7300MA router/modem.

The setup works fine, but I cannot get RouteSentry to authenticate over the link. The main PC, connected to the Billion directly, works fine, so no problems with the configuration, right?

I've tried flashing OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato. Some cool firmwares, but none of them work.

Does anyone have any idea? I've read something about a PPPoE-relay function that is available on the "special" edition of DD-WRT, for €20. I'm not quite ready to pay that much for something I don't know will work, and seem to have no upgrade support (the special ed. is a couple of versions behind the current free version)

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! ;-) I hope my description is clear enough. Please ask if something is not clear. I'm all out of ideas on how to fix this.

Actually, the Billion firmware seems to have this capability (PPPoE-relay) built in. Only problem is that I can't flash my Linksys with the Billion firmware...

I cannot imagine that the feature rich Tomato or DD-WRT is incapable of doing the same. I'm convinced I just have to configure it somewhere, I just don't know where.

Does no-one else in SA run RouteSentry over a wireless link?

Try this: http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:...int&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=za&client=firefox-a

1. Run a straight-thru ethernet cable from your good router/switch to one of the LAN ports on your Linksys wireless router, NOT the WAN port
2. Disable DHCP in the wireless router
3. If desired, setup WEP or WPA for security

Then you do this:
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/static-ip-address.asp

Don't become confused though, the steps are as follow:
Switch off DHCP on the Linksys, configure the Wireless Settings in the Linksys to match the Billion.

Now, leaving the Billion's DHCP running, you look for an IP address that is not used in it's DHCP pool, like 192.168.1.101 and you manually apply those settings in Windows Network Adapter properties, right click in network connections, tcp/ip settings.

Not sure if it will work, but you can try it ;)

Thanks for the help! In the end it wasn't the DHCP that was interfering (I already had that disabled), but the second router was set up as a Gateway. I changed the setting to Router, and everything worked!

Thanks, guys!
