Royal Canin Pet Problems

I don't understand why they take action so late in the day when pets have already died.

In other countries someone's head would roll!!
 
It is terrible! There was a big discussion about this on 702 today...

I really hope people who's pets have been harmed stand together and sue those responsible. The line has to be drawn somewhere :mad: :mad:
 
Syndyre, this is still continuing from the problem last week. I'm just glad they haven't tried to cover it up and are doing their best to ensure no more pets die.

Royal Canin South Africa Proactively Recalls Certain Products

Johannesburg, April 16, 2007

As a follow up to previous communications, it appears from tests carried out since Tuesday, 10 April, both in South Africa and overseas, that a batch of raw material received by Royal Canin South Africa from a third party supplier may have been contaminated. Tests are continuing in order to determine the precise contaminant. The test results from independent laboratories are expected by the end of the week and will be communicated upon receipt.

As a further precautionary measure and despite that all products have not been contaminated, we have decided to organise a voluntary recall of ALL dog and cat dry food products manufactured under the Vets Choice and Royal Canin brands in South Africa by Royal Canin RSA during period from 8th March 2007 to 11th April 2007. This voluntary recall is in line with our commitment to putting the interests and well being of pets first.

This recall does not include products manufactured in South Africa before 8 March 2007 and products manufactured outside South Africa. Pet owners are requested to check the date of manufacture and country of origin on the packs of all Royal Canin products in their possession and return recalled product to the vet from which it was purchased.

We are continuing to work closely with the South African Veterinary Association and the relevant authorities to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

I don't think heads are rolling in other countries. They would have no reason to test for every possible toxic chemical, so these things only show up when a person or animal gets sick.

That is the problem. Most of us get sick al the time, but when we report our illness to a medical doctor they are more inclined to test for the presence of a bacteria or a virus rather than to test for the presence of toxins in our food and environment.
