Howzit guys,
If my Xbox gets the RRoD does the 3 year warranty count from when I bought it or from the manufacturing date?

Thanks

From when you bought it! Assuming you buy it at a retailer.

Otherwise, lets say you buy a 2006 model (MFR date) it would expire next year :p

Just making sure because I've got a 2005 model and if it RRoDs then I'm in c@k

A friend of mine had the RRoD - after reading extensively online he was informed that some of the glue on the board melts and doesnt conduct correctly.
Wrap a thick towel around the xbox - let it run for a number of hours, over night or something, this melts the bonding agent and sets it correctly. His Xbox is running better than before since doing that.

I take it it's a US import?

If it's run fine this long I would imagine is pretty solid. If it's out of warranty I think you'll just have to pay the "repair" cost which is about R700, which isn't that bad I guess.

The towel trick melts capacitors and other necessary circuitry for functionng of the Xbox. It might run fine now ... but will RROD is again in future. That motherboard is on its way to 360 heaven!

The towel trick is a mobo buster. Not a repair

UK or US import! An imported model doesn't get covered. MI Digital will charge R700, ship in a replacement unit, then give you a 3 month warranty.

I charge R250 minus shipping for a RROD repair. So if it goes belly up that is an option ;)

Cheers

I toweled mine and added ram sinks to the GPU ram and it is running fine now for a few months. Towel it baby, it works :D

Sure.

But when it doesn't work in 3 months time and no amount of "towel tricking" or other overheating methods don't work ... don't say I didn't warn you.

Adding modded PC heat sinks and PC fans is the proper way to do it.

But I have my own "secret recipe" in any case. My towel stays in the bathroom however :p

No, I bought it from Telkom a couple of weeks ago and when I got home I saw that they had given me a three year old XBOX

OIC. Seems they selling refurbished Cores/Premiums.

That sucks ... no wonder they're so cheap!

Then the 3 year warranty is valid from date of purchase. 2011 here we come :p

In that case you're fine, just don't lose your proof of purchase!

Put it somewhere safe. Chances are it's got upgraded guts anyway.

Mi digital does not honour the 3 year MS warranty  according to them they only offer a 1 year warranty on the console even though my console was still under the 3 year MS warranty, thats why i still had to pay a swopout fee because they only give a 1 year warranty ! One of their employees gave a detailed explanation to the people at the store where I swopped out my console ! atleast i got a brand new supercool falcon after paying the R680 swopout fee and not a refurb !

Wasn't it because you didn't have the proof of purchase? With proof of purchase you don't pay a handling fee

The manager at incredible corruption said even with the proof of purchase i would have still had to pay the swopout fee cause they (MI digital) only offer a 1 year warranty's apparently ! IN essence they get free replacement consoles from ms whilst still making a R680 profit on it !

Then that is a rip-off!

The 1yr warranty of my Premium runs out in December. I can repair most problems, so should it die on me, I'll fix it.

I'm now sourcing a device to help in those times that the DVD-ROM drive dies and I need to plug a new one into the system. To reprogram it in essence.

I'm hoping to give the Xbox 360 owner a proper after-sales service. Not the shena****ns that MI Digital are pulling. Repairing the console is what I'm learning to love.

I hope to get support from the community out there ;)

I will add a link in my sig once my website is live. I'm sourcing quality 3rd party accessories from overseas, and will also be selling refurbished Xbox 360 consoles, stock dependant.

My 0.02c

I will die the day I get the RRoD unless a new version of the xbox has come out and they give me that one at no cost. . .

I contacted Microsoft themselves and thet gave me a reference number for the swop out although the Xbox was 18 months old. You phone the Microsoft number on the contacts on the .co.za website, follow the prompts and voila!

I had some problems telling them that I was from South Africa. According to them you should be able to take it to a dealer which will do the swop-out for you.

Incredible connection refused to do the swopout but CNA did. IC has lost the last chance of me ever buying from them.
