RS Components - Delay in Raspberry PI

Don't know if mines has 256 or 512 memory though. Can I tell if it has the higher by examining the board?

I've read somewhere, the number on the main chip contain either a something "4G" something or something "2G" something. The 2G indicate 256k and the 4G indicate 512k. When did you initially place your order and did you order from SA based RS or UK? I placed my order here. Don't know if it make a difference, but when they send the casing that I ordered, it also took about a month after initial order, but once they indicated that it was dispatched, I received it the next day.

I must say, I'm really disappointed with the whole ordeal. I ordered end of June and still nothing. I emailed RS but they're just the middle man, so they keep forwarding my emails to RaspPi. They say my expected delivery time is 14th November, with 21 days of shipping. I'm not in the country at the time so now I'm trying to get them to change my shipping address... No response.. If I don't get the 512 version, I will be very bleak.

I ordered from RS UK.
The day they shipped (15 Oct) is the day they indicated that all shipments from that day onwards would get the 512k.

So I guess mines could have gone either way.

you should get the 512 version.

I paid with my CC, noooob mistake I know, but now I am boned.

this is not a noob mistake or even a mistake, just file a dispute with the CC company and state "goods not delivered"

Pfffffft, I ordered on 26 June, Was notified of a delay on 29 August, then was told on 4 Oct that my order has been dispatched and will take 21 days. Well... it is the 6th of November and still nothing.

It is quicker to get an ID document from Home Affairs it seems.

This must be similar to me. Had even forgot about it.

I must get in touch with them and be wtf about this situation.

Lol people.. just buy from modmypi. Took me 8 days from paying to installing xbmc on it :)

And no custom fees. Around R440 with shipping and a case

Hows it running? I'm attempting to run raspbmc - and have everything setup, but the interface keeps freezing, and I'm using my iPad power adapter, so it should be more than sufficient.

I had issues with raspbmc as well - and I was using by blackberry charger.
Switched to xbian - and it works like a dream.

I am rather surprised at all the hassles you guys have experienced with RS Components (SA) when ordering your Pi's.

At the professional level their service is very good, I know this first hand. Yes I ordered my Pi from them fairly soon after orders were opened, and admittedly after a long wait (which was a supply/demand thing), I received it no problem.

Any orders should be handled the same way, whether from a once-off buy from a forumite, or from someone who is professionally registered with them as I am. Not saying they are handled differently, just an worrying observation from my perspective.

Well, mine never arrived, and they just stopped responding to emails from myself - and didn't bother responding/acknowledging the paypal claim, so was by default ruled in my favour.

our company actually stopped using them due to bad service and constant stock issues.

You are very lucky.

I'd be seriously pissed. Not good.

Noted. Maybe I shouldn't push it in future ;)

I have nothing against RS - they just the middle man. Its RaspPi I'm a little annoyed it.

Runs fine, xbmc lags a tiny bit in menus with graphics but runs HD video fine!

The case is very cool :P
