RSA v Australia - 16 June 2007

I dont know how much of a no contest it is, but look at South Africa's previous games, practically England's 3rd team scored 20 points against us.
I really dont think our team is up to scratch, we always go into games against AUS with this huge cloud over our head in any sport. I hope it will be a good game and if it is we shall definitly be the winners!

What a useless bastard the ref is, he caused John Smit's injury, he's taken the longest of any ref I've seen at the scrums for crouch, touch, pause, engage.

3 warnings (of 1 foul) = team prof. foul = yellow card.

The Aussies were deliberately collapsing the srums and mauls and it went unpunished and Pierre Spies gets yellow carded by the inexperience of the referee or the sneekiness of Gregan.

I am pissed off, with this Northern Hemisphere referees.

Anyway, well done boks.

On the other hand, I though Aussies defence was really good, and for the 2mins and 30secs that the Aussies actually had the ball for, they certaintly looked the part. Aussies took the pressure really well, the turn-around during the first half was good.

I didnt see the stats after the match, but i'd be interested to see possession/territory etc.


Anyway, so little time before wc, but, Aussies not as crappy as some people say.

From memory, it was about 60% possession to SA. Territory wise, I think SA was in Austalia's 22 for about 24% of the time. Tackles made by Australia were 134 against 52 made by SA.
 
Close game, good result though. Hopefully a wake up call.
 
Darn, I miss the half the second half. Anyone know when there will be a re-broadcast? I want to record it and send it to a few Aussie mates. ;)
 
If it was not for the two drop goals by Francois Steyn ...................

Maybe a good wake up call to be not too assured.
 
not really we dominated the game,if butch james didnt kick the ball away everytime we where in a good position we could have scored more tries

i really hope they drop him like a ton of bricks because he kicks way to much

we need to play like the all blacks, u get the ball and pass and run you dont kick it away the whole time

i have a bad feeling next if james plays again
 
Classic game which was full of tense excitement. Steyn's two drop goals in the 73rd and 75th minutes were too close to the final whistle, for comfort. The Boks were too interested in a try and could have taken many chances at closing the gap by taking the three points from several penalties. The Aussie defence was magnificent. The Boks did well but failed to capitalise on two big breaks by de Villiers. The first 20 minutes of the game was one of pristine control by the Boks but the Aussies are not a bunch to give up easily and were dangerous the few times that they entered the Boks 22.

Schalk Burger - well what can I say. He was a collusus and it is so good to see him in such great form. We missed him dearly last season and his performance yesterday, just goes to show how important he is to the team. He was everywhere and when he didn't have the ball, he was screaming at his team mates to pass it to him. The same cannot be said for Willemse and Pieterson. I have to agree with David Campese when he said that these two should not be waiting for the game to come to them.
 
Yeah great game. The quality of rugby has been great this year for S.A.
 
The chokers will be here soon to thrash out their team against the boks. We'll see the usual display from nz and during tri series, following onto the wc we'll see them bomb out.

Boks far from clinical, something went very wrong 9 and 10. The backline was lying to flat and perhaps they should have given themselves more space and stood a bit deeper, use the same tatics as teams use against our rush defence, dunno.

Aussies did very well, sacking each lineout before the maul could get going, shifting in the front row and world class defence when it counted.

Had we scored in the first 10 minutes I think it would have been all over right then and there for the visitors but they held us out with some bonecrunching defence.
F Steyn, say no more.
Great test to win! Aussies must be gutted.
 
always nice to be able to really enjoy a test match between two teams giving it their all. aussies looked great on defence and in open play when they managed to impose their gameplan - easy to see how the aus development is more about league skills early on

thought the ref was okay but laughed everytime he rushed to say "engage" because nobody was buying the "pause" bs

"pausengage" :)

steyn - matchwinner
burger - insane...seems to be involved in at least 50% of all SA play
willemse - lost pace but that is the kind of mongrel approach that is needed
 
Anyone here beside myself that thinks the ref nearly handed the game to the Aussies.

Damn crappy ref. However it was his first and the best team did win. Just hope we have a decent ref this wee-end.
