Important information about driving licence penalty points in South Africa

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) has explained how traffic infringements will work under the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) Act through a series of posts on Twitter/X.

This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa formally proclaimed that phase one of the controversial new traffic enforcement law's rollout would begin with 69 municipalities from 1 December 2025.

Useless fat lazy turd traffic cops can't even keep un-roadworthy vehicles off the road, let alone enforce the degenerate afterbirths that is the taxi industry to show an ounce of decorum for other road users. So easy targets will get the brunt of it.

This might have worked 20 odd years ago, when it was originally going to be deployed, when we had a semi functioning country.

Anything this government does leaves a bad taste in the mouth, the biggest criminals pretending we are the problem who needs to be controlled. I am not surprised so many people flip them the bird now days.

Not against a point system. But as always with our laws it will be whether we are competent enough to implement them.

He's talking like this will work in practicality. First of all there's no post office left to deliver anything. Secondly if it's an administrative process there's no legal ramifications. Once those come into effect the CPA and constitution comes into effect. If will eventually be another etoll with OUTA offering to take the first case with it never arriving and the government simply ignoring infringers. You can't be prevented from renewing licenses and it's only the disk which they can withhold, many people don't know the difference between that to take it up with licensing officials. There's no ramifications for not renewing a drivers license card.

"Those who fail to pay within 32 days will be issued a courtesy letter, adding R60 to the amount they owe."

..so you wont get the letter then courtesy of our awesome postal system. R60 more for them to pocket

The notice will be provided at the time by a traffic officer or delivered via registered mail or electronic communications.
