Not cool from the Cell C dude.

However, after the first attempt at politely telling them you not interested, I don't know why you didn't just drop the call.

I have even stopped going the polite route, and as soon as I hear its a telemarketer, I drop the call immediately. They don't phone me back.

I ask them to tell me all about the special, then put the phone in my pocket and carry on with life.

I don't know why people get so worked up over these things. Due to the ludicrous amounts of telemarketing these days I've made a habit of not answering any calls unless they're from people I know (on my contact list). If anyone else is looking for me urgently they can leave a voice message. Simple.

Not an option for work-related calls. Takes more time to check voicemail than simply answering the call and telling them to piss off.

I just politely tell them I'm busy and hang up without giving them any chance to sell me anything. Easy.

Giving what away for free?

Rewards or something. I don't know. I don't want to sound like a prick, but I really am not interested in their free stuff. I don't need charity.

Last time they called me, they offered me my own personal secretary for R60 a month or something. To assist me with finding plane tickets, tips on the stock market and I don't know what else. When I said I'm not interested, the bloke on the other line wanted an explanation on why not. How could I possibly refuse this magnificent offer. They're thanking me by letting me pay them R60 more a month, for a useless service.
