Rude telemarketers from Cell C

Right, I'm not normally one to write these fuming letters, but I'm pretty pissed off.

So today some chap who claims to be from Cell C calls me, introduces himself as Clayton or Chaitin or something or other. He tells me Cell C wants to thank me for having my contract with them and for paying on time every month. :wtf:

He then starts talking about Cell C rewards and I politely tell him that I'm going to stop him because I'm very busy and not interested in rewards or credit. He snaps back in turn that it's not credit bla bla bla. The more I try and excuse myself, the higher he raises his voice above mine and tries to dominate the conversation. After about 10 seconds of this, he screams "WE'RE GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE!" (original conversation was in afrikaans) and ends the call. If you're going to scream at me, at least don't be a coward and hang up the phone afterwards.

I don't know where the hell you found this miscreant, but I am fscking upset with Cell C at the moment. Trust me when I say I would rather move my next contract to Vodacom, even at a higher price. It might only be a drop in your pond, but it's my drop that I'm moving. I'm not interested in people peddling their nonsense. This is not the first time you've called me about rubbish like this and it's not the first time I've refused.

If you insist on irritating me by calling me, at least teach your telemarketers some manners.

You'd move your contract just because of a rude telemarketer? Nice. Enjoy the Vodacom ones.

You should forward this to Cell C's complaints with your phone number so that they can take action against him.

If this is an official Cell C employee and not some company they outsource to, yes I'd move it. (Also if it's outsourced, who gave them that right?)

Not cool from the Cell C dude.

However, after the first attempt at politely telling them you not interested, I don't know why you didn't just drop the call.

I have even stopped going the polite route, and as soon as I hear its a telemarketer, I drop the call immediately. They don't phone me back.

That idiot is probably not from Cell C. He is from one of these many little company's that resell Cell C contracts.

I have had plenty of these idiots phone me "Thanking me for being a Vodacom customer, but when I question him it comes out he is actually from some other company.

I don't know. I think I should start doing this. I normally try to end a call properly.

That's why I don't bother entertaining these calls.

Me: Hello?
Them: Hi I'm from CellC/FNB/Dial Direct/etc., how are you today?
Me: Good thanks.
Them: The reason I'm calling you is because you qualify...
Me: Piss off *click*

If you want to try the polite approach, tell them that you're heading off to a meeting and ask if they can call back at a designated time (say 13:00 for eg.). Then when they call back, you know it's them, and you don't have to answer.

You are totally right. Next time the mechanic at the Hyundai garage gives me "the look" I am SO going to Kia. F*** these BASTARDS!

Just saying... I wouldn't let this twat inconvenience me by making me move to another SP. I'd rather get his ass fired or at least report him to get a verbal warning. Remember, he is the bitch, not you :p

I'm not turning this into a Cell C vs Vodacom war. I'm saying I'm considering alternatives if this is how Cell C treats their customers.

I been with Vodacom, MTN and now Cell C. The all pretty much treat their customers there same. Sometimes its excellent, other times its the worst possible customer service.

Don't expect any one to be significantly better then the others.

I had THREE calls from Jazz Cellular or some such yesterday, on the third call - after being polite on the other two, I told the person to **** off, seems to have worked.

The problem with telemarketer is polite means "the potential customer has not said yes yet... I will break him!"

Telling a telemarketer firmly you are not interested and hanging up sends a different message. Using swearwords sends the message a bit better, but I reserve those for repeat offenders :)

Yep this is basically what I do as well, but I usually just finish up with I'm not interested and then drop the call before they can argue the point.

I hate telemarketers if I need anything I have google

Thats what I mean by polite...I say "Thank you, I'm not interested" and hang up, I don't give them time to respond.

Nope ... even that is rude ... You should say "Thank you, I'm not interested" and then put the phone softly on the table ... let them talk and explain to "air".

What you should do is try sell them your pencil or pen... see how long it takes for them to hang up.

I actually did promote my company once or twice - kept the poor bastads on for 20-30 mins.
Another time I just passed my phone from person to person in the office. No one swore at the telemarketer - all he heard from everyone is "It's not me, just a moment..."

I just usually tell them I'm not interested thanks.

If they persist, I put the phone on speaker and go about my day. As soon as I hear them stop talking I ask them to repeat what they said, I didn't hear. Then they naturally ask which part, I say all of it, start from the beginning.

My record is getting them to repeat 3 times so far.

If they don't understand no thanks, then I'll gladly waste their time.
