Rudolph Muller's predictions for 2006

Hi guys

Thanks for the kind words. This was actually an old version (done a few weeks ago before I knew about the SNO licensing etc.)... They promised to update it, but it looks like everybody is in holiday mode :D

Very nice article!
Just a quick question.

"To curb the high cost of telecoms, municipalities will start to aggressively roll out their own networks. Tshwane will be the leader in this department, with Johannesburg and Cape Town not far behind"

I am wondering why you say Pretoria( Tshwane ) would be the leader? This would be great for me since i live here!

Hopefully we will see more price cuts as they reach that 350k.. I was thinking the other day the main difference currently is that here Telkom is essentially still selling old style(high rental & usage) to make profit unlike others overseas who sell more services & content for people to buy. hopefully this will be on the increase though with per-gig-billing content hosting in SA has perhaps taken a back step ? Then again it forced them to host internationally for cheaper in some cases.. Mebbe Telkom will see that allowing more local access for cheap will allow them and others to produce/sell more content service esp latency critical stuff like games etc I'm sure their international usage has gone up slightly more..(taking out high users though/30GB acc.)

Then again the reason they pushing connection prices might be cause they can make a bigger buck that way knowing not many can afford it, ie skin the the outer (richer) layers first and then reduce cost sl-ow-l-y and bring in people(lower cost) when income becomes a bit stagnent
