I think you meant wing.

There isn't room for Bismark at hooker - we're only allowed one and John Smit is too valuable as a player. Bismark is quick and could play flank quite well - how many scrums are there these days? He may be a little short but then Brussouw isn't tall.

Sure, Spies is fast for a forward.. but do you honestly think he will run with the fastest players in World Rugby? Like Jo Rockofocko ; Drew Mitchell ; Shane Williams?

As for Pienaar vs Steyn, Steyn is the better goal kicker by quite some margin... Pienaar brings more to the rest of the game than Steyn. Fair enough, Steyn is improving game after game, but he is far of a Dan Carter or Quade Cooper, don't you think?

You said Spies was too slow for a FLANK, thats why he was so surprised ;). Spies is faster than MOST flanks. Not sure why you are comparing a forward to a winger anyway!

D3X's qoute is spot on, i thought you meant he is too slow for flank (which is what you posted) where as he is probably one of the fastest forwards in world rugby. Also don't see why he should be compared to wingers? he's a forward

I don't know about Steyn/Carter at this point in time, but if you have a look at Carter after his 1st year of play, and Steyn, you might see some similarities, and remember, Steyn have out performed Carter in quite a few S14 games, and a Tri-Nations game or two. He's definitely not the best yet, but i think he will be one day
 
Have a look at Steyns stats vs Carters stats for their first year at international level rugby!

Is it possible?
 
He's a fastly fading star though and he seriously needs to up his game or we need to find someone else ...... his Tri-Nations was on the most part shocking. And that's not saying that 98% of the whole team didn't have a shocking Tri-Nations.

erm Spies ran the 100m faster than Habana before the Previous Wc, he is by no means slow, his father used to be the u/21 SA hurdle record holder and the talent runs in the family :)
 
Phew, what a finish to the Bulls v Cheetahs game. Cheetahs dominated the collisions and Bulls made to many errors. Great try in the first minute.

WP also won 59 -17 against the Leopards.

And then there was an idiot in the Newlands crowd that made a dry ice bomb and it exploded in his hands.
Unfortunately he is okay. They should ban him from the stadium for life.
 
Looks like the Puams have warmed to Mbombela Stadium:

The Mpumalanga Rugby Union opted to move the game (against WP) to the 42000-seater Mbombela stadium rather than host the match at their 13000-capacity Pumas stadium.

"There are two main reasons for us moving the game," Pumas chief executive Koos Kruger told The Times.

"First, like the Leopards, who have two venues in Potchefst-room and Rust-enburg, so do we. Nelspruit falls within our region, so it's a chance to move games to other areas.

"Second, from a financial perspective it makes much more sense to have the game there. If we use the Bulls match as a measurement, where we had 20000 people, it makes financial sense to use the Mbombela stadium for this game."

The SA Rugby Union confirmed that switching of match venues was entirely up to the host union as long as the stadiums met safety standards and tournament facility criteria. The Mbombela stadium exceeds these standards.

Wilton Pietersen returns to the rugby field this weekend after horror accident in 2009.

Not many people thought they would ever see this young man on a rugby field again. But now, after a miracle recovery and months of hard work, SA Schools, -u/19 and -u/20 star Wilton Pietersen has worked his way back onto the playing field.

Pietersen’s promising career was brought to a sudden halt in March 2009, when him and four friends were involved in a serious car accident in Bloemfontein. Days later he was still in a coma and with serious injuries his rugby career was looking like a thing of the past.

Now, a year and a half since the accident, Wilton is ready to grab his second chance with both hands and he is taking nothing for granted when he takes position at fullback for the Lions u/21 team against the Blue Bulls u/21 team at Loftus Versveld this Saturday.

Pietersen was born in Mosselbay on 10 March 1989. He attended Hoërskool Outeniqua in George where he also got chosen to represent SWD at the Craven Week and later got picked for the SA Schools squad in 2006.

After school Pietersen joined up with the Cheetahs where he first got picked for the SA u/19 squad and a year later, in 2008, for the SA u/20 squad who toured to Wales for the inaugural IRB Junior World Champs. Pietersen also became a regular in the Springbok’s Sevens squad.

After showcasing exceptional skills at fullback for the SA u/20 and Cheetahs u/21 teams, Pietersen became a regular starter for the senior Free State Cheetahs side in the Currie Cup before a knee injury sidelined him in early 2009. Pietersen was on the verge of making his comeback for the Cheetahs’ Vodacom Cup team and plans were already in place to include him in the Vodacom Cheetahs Super 14 squad when the accident happened.

Pietersen started his rehabilitation and early reports suggested that he will never play rugby again. Especially since he was struggling with his hand-eye coordination at the time.

After a few setbacks in his journey to recovery Pietersen made the decision to continue his rehabilitation and career at the Lions. A decision that has now come full circle for the young star when he will wear the number 15 jersey.

Another young star returning to action this weekend, in the same match as Pietersen, is Wandile Mjekevu.

Mjekevu got injured in the second week of the Lions’ 2010 Super 14 campaign but continued playing with the injury until the end of the Super 14 and also pushed through to represent the Baby Boks at the IRB Junior World Champs in Argentina. After the tournament his right knee got inflamed and he was forced to undergo surgery.

Mjekevu will start in the number 14 jersey for the u/21’s to get much needed game time and work his way back into the senior squad, a goal that Pietersen is working towards too.

Both players are excited to return to the playing field and some of their posts on the social networking site Twitter read:

Pietersen: “Cant wait to take on the bulls satrday(Saturday)”

Mjekevu: “Preparation is now complete… Time to rest up then fire.”

The Lions u/21 team faces the Blue Bulls u/21 side at 15h00 on Saturday at Loftus Versveld in Pretoria ahead of the senior Currie Cup teams.

Come Saturday all eyes will be on these two youngsters.

the way WP played on Friday night, you shouldn’t wager too much hard earned-cash against Province retaining their position in the top two or even catching the top team, the Sharks, in the closing weeks of the league stages. Certainly the magnitude of the win and the quality of the performance should give the Cape team plenty of confidence for the tough three-match sequence of matches that awaits them against Griquas (home), the Bulls (away) and Sharks (home).

Good result for the Bulls, but there were some off-the-ball incidents for which they should not be proud of; in fact I hope the Lions lodge some complaints with the citing officer. I doubt that they will, though..

I have no interest in either of the Lions or Bulls, but the way in which certain Bulls players continually took out Elton Jantjes with late hits is not on. All credit to the youngster for getting up each time and not retaliating, except the very last one right at the end of the game in the in-goal area (with one of the biggest Bulls' forwards, Flip "vuilgat" van der Merwe).

But, yeah, I suppose that's rugby!!
 
Bulls have always and consistently been the dirty bastids of SA Rugby ..... why change now.
 
Can someone explain to me what happened with Keegan Daniel and the Cheetahs?

Unfortunately I could not watch the game as I was busy at Loftus and i only saw a tweet come through from Tank Lanning and some people b1tching about dirty play after the game.

Him and the Cheetahs 3 (or 1) had a handbags scuffle ....... the Cheetah player tried to get the oscar for an eye gouge but the slow-mo replay showed a few open slaps from both sides, that's all. Toughs on the little tweety chop.
 
I am very happy with how things are going this year in the Currie Cup.

The Lions are winning again, the top 5 teams are all still in with a chance at the semis and some guys are really putting up their hands for end of the year grand slam tour.
