I'm just wondering about these "bans" handed out to players.

this is how i see it:

1. Bakkies attempted to smack the oke with his elbow (wrong, yes) and got suspended for 3 weeks... fair enough
2. Rory Kocket moers the guy, with the fist, on the ground. gets banned for one week

W T F !?

Yeah it is a problem.

I think there should be set rules.

Shot thrown = 3 weeks.
Yellow for prof foul = 1 week
etc
etc

I think they look at the players history, if not mistaken, that could of been Rory's first bit of off the ball dirty play.

Someone like Bakkies (The Enforcer) Botha is well renouned for his dirty and off the ball tactics, everyone knows him for that, bakkies has been lucky in the past with some of his play that got brushed aside and ignored.

We all know he prefers to play the man and not the ball.

So i guess thats what might have given him a longer suspension then what Rory Kocket got.

yeah, i find it hard to believe that they are consistant?

That #8 from the chiefs almost killed Habbana (wonder if he would have been suspended if [-] it was not for an Incompetent useless B.... [/-] it was not for a 'technicality'

I agree, clear cut, set rules. at this moment its all random.

but is that a fair way of looking at it, shouldn't every case be unique?

Thats almost the same as saying Graeme Smith is a prime LBW candidate, so whenever the ball hits him on the pads... he must be out? [cross sport comparison, sorry, only thing that made sense....]

You are right, its not really fair, but once a player builds up a reputation for being a foul player, its difficult to overlook it.

It was the same for James Dolton and Sean Fitzpatrick, except those days foul play was not so heavily punished.

Look at Morne Steyn, that dude never gets involved in dirty play, but if one day he loses his cool and does something stupid like slaps another player, i doubt that the citing commision will be harsh on him like they would be on a player who is well known for getting into trouble, i guess having a clean track record does help a bit.

OFF topic:p

 Yes that "no-arm" shoulder charge was not foul at all...

He is a spitefull player, maybe not dirty but "geniepsig".

Anyway I say standard rules.

Yes and got off with no charges

typical, but if it was the other way around, the next game fourie would have played would have been against the cheetahs in their debut super 14 semi-final..... *whenever that may be*

The main factor in Kockott getting only a one week suspension? .... clean track record and he didn't use his fist .... look at the incident again and you'll see it was a flatty which the guy milked for an Oscar moment ;)

I would also do the same, means that the sharks have no make some changes to their team.
