I am using the DSTV app, seems down now

I tested this. The DSTV stream is struggling along with interrupts now and again. Through a VPN, no smart DNS, the ITV stream is stable with no noticeable interruptions.
I believe that DSTV’s issue may be peering related…

Where there is an intentional monopoly that is overpriced, then I don't see why people should stress about watching rugby from other sources. There is no other option that DSTV has given. You either subscribe to Premium or you don't get the rugby. Doesn't matter if they gave a slight discount for Sept and Oct.
The least they could have done was have special package for the RWC. Say R500 and you get all the games, replays and PVR functionality.

It could even be a special event pass via ShowMax (so you entice the user with access to other stuff). I dunno what’s wrong with their marketing dept..

I'm streaming straight off the satellite. Seems to work fine. No buffering and jittering. Little black stb decrypts.

Imagine the ad potential they could have put to the advertisers if they could have shown subscriber numbers due to a special package over satellite? Online sources are not available to everyone, but anyone with a dish and decoder could subscribe to a special event. If I were a rugby fan and was offered the whole WCR event at R500, it could have been an option.
