Amazing. A legal case in South Africa, and judgement is reserved. Judges are never shy to reserve judgement. They never know what to do. Maybe they need to phone a friend, discuss the case with a non-party, collect bribes, or review the transcript to see what was said when they weren't listening. It's pretty hard to tell, because they don't have to say. I think it's due to a sudden and urgent need to go to the loo at the end of every case.

That's proper. If he just made a judgement from the bench, there is a good chance the ruling will be overturned, due to various legal arguments the losing party can make in an appeal. This way the judge has ample to sit down and write his judgement, and explain his reasoning for coming to the conclusion. This results in a well-thought out judgement that can be studied, and then appealed if necessary. Other than the need for instant gratification, I can't see why you want him to render an instant on-the-spot judgement.
