Bloody pain in the arse.

Since 4:00am thunk, thunk, thunk of car doors closing as runners arrive..... and then an effing megaphone at 5:00.

Jeezus people, have some consideration :(

Yeah remember that well when we used to stay right behind Hatfield Christian Church.

They hosted 2 or 3 of these a year back then.

Worst was always at 3am when that Coca-Cola Stage truck starts doing sound checks with Kurt Darren songs.... AAARGH!!!

Now we are limited to the odd Garsfontein Highschool Sokkie or concert hosted there at night. But they usually finish early at least.

Kurt Darren :crylaugh: poor you.

You know APoc a party at night's fine it's the early morning wake up that throws me. All dogs on the route bark, runners shrieking and laughing. It's a nightmare and a huge intrusion :(

This weekend's a big one but they come past every sat and sun at the cracka.

I'm kinda split between the two. Because I'm into fitness myself and do enjoy a proper run every Sunday morning. Other 6 days I just pick up heavy stuff and put it down repeatedly.

But I do it completely on my own, in my garage. And the runs are not at ungodly hours either.

But I know some of the types you refer to. We have them here too. Mostly groups of older overweight ladies in tights just strolling through the neighbourhood catching up in the week's gossip. All to try and justify the slab of chocolate they will be devouring later.

Then we have one guy in the neighbourhood who takes his Jack Russel for a stroll after 10 at night, talking loudly on his phone with boyfriend/girlfriend. Dogs all go ape**** and takes a while to calm down again. Only for him to return on the same route 30min later.

Fair enough, you don't impose your lifestyle on neighbours and it's important you stay fit.

They've just come back towards the race end.

Marshals shouting encouragement, clapping.

I'd be VERY embarrassed if any of them got a pic of me in my pyjamas shouting SHADDUP from our gate :)

...
Yes I sank to that level.

Tks for the support APoc, it helped to have your sympathy :)

The coup de grace - a cavalcade of cars, hooters blaring following the last runners all blowing vuvuzelas.

Would you rather the runners start later and ruin traffic for the entire day? The early start times are actually to cause less of a disruption.

Do you live next to a sports field? Who was there first? Is this a once off event?

Fun run? That's nothing. In a couple of weeks NMB is once again hosting IronMan which means my seaside suburb gets cut off from civilisation for the duration of the cycle leg. :o

It also means leaving home at 430am that day so I can get to the race start and begin my 18 hour stint of photographing it.

Awesome. Go out and support the athletes. Wish I lived close to the events to volunteer. Are you one of the official photographers for FinisherPix?

I get blocked into my house during 94.7. No way in or out of our little area, so it's a Sunday in.

Not sure yet. If not them then someone else. I'm kinda hoping for the someone else.

So, OP, once a year or so you have some minor inconvenience, that you were probably made aware of long in advance?

Is this what the call white people's problems?

Or if it's more accurate, get a life why don't you?

Oh. 18 hours is a long day. Even longer for the athletes out there! Can you imagine how long it is for the 17 hour Ironman finisher.

Don't you get paid for the time? Or do you get paid per pic that is bought?

Depends on who's commissioning the assignment. Usually it will be a flat rate for the event. Sometimes you also get an additional commission on photos that are purchased. I've covered IM for agencies and sponsors. Sponsors pay better and the hours are shorter. :)

Thanks. Interesting. Well - hope you don't get the assignment. Haha.

Not sure if it's a once off but I doubt it.

I don't remember exactly when the club? group? organisation? arrived in the area but let's say 5/6 months. They seem to run every day but apart from one or two runners shouting comments at the crack of dawn on Saturday and Sunday mornings it's been fine. Irritating but fine.

We're a block away from the local Community Centre and unconfirmed rumour has it this particular group were asked to leave (i.e. kicked out of) Blairgowrie. I couldn't understand the problem with a few runners but I get it now. They behaved despicably this weekend without consideration for babies, students, shift workers or even for people who want to party on Friday and Saturdays and sleep in on two days of the week they don't work.

The organisers must have been delighted with the event, it was well attended, people had fun and it probably brought in a lot of money. However most of the shrieking was done by marshals running up and down the roads encouraging runners, the megaphone was ridiculous and noisy participants antagonised the neighbourhood dogs.

Would you rather the runners start later and ruin traffic for the entire day? The early start times are actually to cause less of a disruption.

Yes I would rather, there's very little through traffic in the area. What would be even better is for participants and marshals to show consideration.

Could be worse...they could be evangelists singing about the Sky Wizard at 7:30 every Sunday morning.
