Run zone

Could be worse...they could be evangelists singing about the Sky Wizard at 7:30 every Sunday morning.

Nooooooo SauRoNZA, can't even think about it.

LOL @ Sky Wizard.

Not sure if it's a once off but I doubt it.

I don't remember exactly when the club? group? organisation? arrived in the area but let's say 5/6 months. They seem to run every day but apart from one or two runners shouting comments at the crack of dawn on Saturday and Sunday mornings it's been fine. Irritating but fine.

We're a block away from the local Community Centre and unconfirmed rumour has it this particular group were asked to leave (i.e. kicked out of) Blairgowrie. I couldn't understand the problem with a few runners but I get it now. They behaved despicably this weekend without consideration for babies, students, shift workers or even for people who want to party on Friday and Saturdays and sleep in on two days of the week they don't work.

It was pretty cool, I ran the 21K (but I was quiet, I ran to and from the venue as well).

RunZone is quite a new club, and the director came over from Randburg Harriers. They have club runs on weekends, and maybe weekday afternoons too.

Yes I would rather, there's very little through traffic in the area. What would be even better is for participants and marshals to show consideration.

You are only looking at from your perspective. This is a half marathon, so there are 21kms to consider. A yearly event is not such a bad thing.

Also, slamming car doors, and megaphones? Really? It's a public event. How else do you communicate with the people?

Next year join them. Running increases your life expectancy and doing those runs can be a lot of fun.

NEVA! Live fast, die young, have a good looking corpse :)

Didn't realise it was a yearly event, in that case all is forgiven.

I had a (homeless) guy with tourettes/insanity jog past my home before 5am daily shouting "JESUS LOVES YOU" and other mumbling... threatened him with pepper spray a few times but he seems to have disappeared for other reasons.

Now I get homeless people behind my house sometimes... usually when it rains. Then keep me up through the night. Because of the state of crime in the country, I automatically wake up at any sound unless I know what it is from and go check... sometimes also joggers chatting loudly. I haven't had the energy to try and chase any of them away yet.

Hahahaha, lucky he's moved on - but you can relate.

At least you're not in CPT this coming weekend. Two Oceans Marathon on the go. 16,000 people doing the half and 11,000 doing the Ultra. I feel for you if you're out on Friday night and have a snot hangover on Saturday morning! :D

I can only sympathize OP.
I've recently started this whole running malarkey and did a 10K Harriers race in Randburg, started at 7 or 7.30 in the evening. The were a bunch of seriously pi$$ed off homeowners that were stuck in their cars at many intersections, couldn't get in.
A few folk already at home seemed to make an evening of it - had the chairs and tables out, drinking wine and beers, the kids encouraging the runners.
I also assume they have people trawling the route after, picking up the mess created by many of the runners.
Yeah if it's once a year or so that's ok. Once a week I'd look to move!

Could be worse. You could have had these guys outside your gate supporting the runners :D

The Harriers was pretty cool - there were bagpipers at one corner, and for the last 2 or 3K, there were LED lights in glass bottles everyy 5 metres.

I sympathise with the people near Wanderers though; there are so many races in that area.

Yeah remember that well when we used to stay right behind Hatfield Christian Church.

They hosted 2 or 3 of these a year back then.

Worst was always at 3am when that Coca-Cola Stage truck starts doing sound checks with Kurt Darren songs.... AAARGH!!!

I would be either suicidal, or murderous.

Now we are limited to the odd Garsfontein Highschool Sokkie or concert hosted there at night. But they usually finish early at least.

They have been quieter of late. I occasionally hear there sports events during the day but at least it does not start at 4am :)
