I would like to find out if it is possible to run both OpenBrowse and route sentry simultaneously. In other words what I would like to do is buy a 20gig openweb local account and use that with my international cap with route sentry.I would then only use the international cap for international downloads and connecting to game servers.

Will I be able to run route sentry and use the local cap with openbrowse?I really hope some one has tried this because this will save me tones of cash.

Thanks in advance

as far as I am aware:
a) openbrowse gives you as much bandwidth as you local account. u will not gain any extra gigs by routing the local bandwidth seporately
b) openbrowse only does http protocol. it will not be able to connect to a game server etc. and it doesnt even allow downloades unless it is the weekend.
Hope this helps

Thats why I want to use my international account to be able to download and to connect to play on game servers and then use open browse for browsing.I would like to use both my open browse account and my international account simultaneously with route sentry.

So can you run openbrowes on route sentry as local only and then use your international cap as international on it as well?

OK, I see what you are saying...
Technically, it should work. All routesentry will do is route the local traffic over the local connection.
So, seeing as openbrowse connects to a LOCAL proxy, it should go through the local connection .
The ONLY problem that I can think of is that openbrowse might force all your traffic to go via it, and seeing as it cant do downloading etc, it might just not work.

I think the best bet would be to buy a 1GB prepaid local access account from AXXESS and buy the cheapest openbrowse account and try it out. If it works, great! If not, u have 1GB of browsing anyway ;)

Thanks for the reply :)

Are you allowed to use other local capped account on open browse? I actually do have a local prepaid account with axxess so I will email openweb and find out if I can use that account open browse.

Any response from openweb? I'd be interested to know if they allow it...

I looked on their site and it says there that the open browse is only for their members who own adsl account with openweb.

I don't think getting A reply from them would take long.I once emailed them about their VPN service and they allowed me to test it out.Unconformity I didn't acutely get to test it with local only to their their vpn server so I never could actually see how well it worked with with gaming!

I am going to order a one month account with 10GB cap from them once off to test it out and i will tell you how it goes.I just need cash to buy it :(

Maybe I should dig around the house for R150 and get it for this weekend :D

here is a update.

I got a 10GB local account and open browse 384K on Friday.I activated the account and tried to login to open browse but the username and password that I was given did not work to login to the open root software.I called the call centre and was told they would email me when it was fixed and i have still not go the email.

So i am sitting with a 10GB account that at the moment can only be used on weekends as that is when its full access.

I also sent them a message from the site and now have sent them a email. When I finally get to test if this works I will tell you but at the moment I am getting nothing.

Hi,

I have been using Openbrowse with Route Sentry for months now.
It works perfectly.

I have Flashget and Firefox using routesentry, with a webafrica international account, for downloading and fast browsing, while Opera is configured to used Openrouter for normal browsing, as well as [slow] downloads on weekends.

So the fast browsing and downloading goes through international, local is through the local account, while normal browsing and weekend downloading is via Openrouter.

Dude I am so happy that it works!I am now testing it out and at the moment I am running it with route sentry.

I have a few questions if you dont mind :)
1.How do U set it up so that it does not run on a specific browser?
4.what ADSL line do you have and what open browse package do you have?I am wondering because you say you use it for slower browsing!

Thanks for the reply :)

Hi,

Before going any further, remember that Openbrowse is slow.
If you are used to fast browsing, don't expect it with openbrowse.

I have their 30gb local, with the 384k Openbrowse.

Setting up is easy.
Configure your IS account as the local one in Route Sentry and your other international account as the international one.
Once that is running, run openrouter and log in.

Configure it to have all the browsers use Openrouter, so all your browsing would go through there.

As for downloads, gaming etc leave those applications using your international account ie. don't change their config to use the proxy.

My advise is to keep one browser not configured to use Openrouter, as it gets frustrating at times when it is really slow.

Thanks for the reply :) I have set up route sentry and i am running openrouter but the problem is openrouter wont allow me to make it so that opera is not running it :(

I noticed that chrome is not listed on the openrouter program so i think i might try that :)

Thanks again!

To ensure that Opera doesn't use Openrouter, open Opera, select Tools->Quick Preferences, then ensure that "Enable Proxy servers" is not ticked.

Thanks :) just did that and its working fine!

going back to the slow speeds, are you on a 384 line or a faster one? Also how does the weekend work? Do you have to use the open route software still? I ask this because this week end I downloaded to my hearts content without needing the openrouter software open.

Hi,

I have a 4meg line.

IS sometimes allows you a few gigs full speed international at the start of a local only package. So if international is working for you, don't use Openrouter until the international cap is reached.
Once it is reached, use Openrouter.

Download speeds with OpenRouter during weekends are terrible.
Average of around 8-10 kbs.
It is better than nothing though
