Hey, Shirou.

Is there a way to provide a timeout on the sleeper function?

I mean: I'm totally fine with someone coming in a completely wrecking our base and looting all our chests but I'm not really okay with having to play the game 24/7 to ensure that nobody murders me while I'm logged off.

It is creating a bit of a situation where there is no persistence within the game...every day you need to start over because your base which is hanging off of the cliff over the coast in the middle of nowhere which is hard to reach even when you KNOW how to get there, has been looted and you've been murdered.

There is nothing you can do to stop the *******s with tons of C4 from wrecking your base regardless of how well you've reinforced it.

The more you reinforce it, the more they're likely to think there is great loot inside and then are more incentivised to get in...and then they kill you while you're logged off and take everything you have on you and you spawn in some random location.

It would make sense if there were a sleeper timer of 5 minutes so that fight-loggers can't just bail in the middle of a fight to avoid dying but then if you're logging off at night, people only have 5 minutes to get in and murder you.

Is this even a possible feature?

It's something several people have asked about, and it would be great to have, but unfortunately there is no such option yet, and hoping someone release a addon for this.

I don't agree. Had a situation yesterday: We got raided, one of the raiders logged out and then there was a server reset (He can't be seen where he logged out). Later in the evening he logged back in and was in the house they raided (Where he logged out). He raided the house again and as soon as the owner opened the door was promptly killed. This would have been avoided if there was no server reset and he's body could be seen.

Not really sure what you mean.. or why you don't agree on something thats not even implemented yet?

NEWCOMERS BE WARNED on this server.

Dammit, while it's great that it was voted for the server not to be wiped I just wish these ****ers from big overly aggressive clans would stop purely running around and killing anything that moves. Next time I'm voting a wipe.

I truly love this game but it simply doesn't allow someone lone-wolfing it to enjoy it currently, well, not the multiplayer aspect of it anyway....which is kind of the point. The game needs a lot of work to make it more fun for people wanting to do their own thing. The amount of time I've spent just trying to get to grips with strategy etc. is insane...and yes, fun, but most of the time it's just a tedious pit wasted effort.

It's great that it's so difficult, but the massive losses you suffer when harvesting (plus the tedious distances you have to cover for hours on end) just doesn't make it worth it most of the time. Spreading storage boxes all over the place doesn't help either.

Plus I know for a fact that all the stuff I've managed to build/accumulate etc. will just get lost in some lame raid.

You where saying that you hope someone adds a mod for it. What happened there clearly shows why it's not a good idea. Someone raids you and logges out in your house, their body can't be seen if this is implemented. They log in again and they are in your house waiting for you to open the door fully armed...

What i ment was, a mod that allows us to set a time when the body should dissepear.. for example 15min then the body will not show ingame, this will secure us as well from people who might just battle log in a fight.

Which I agree with 100%. But you seem to miss the issue I was discussing with someone's body not showing after 15 minutes. Example:

I raid your house while you are off line. I log out in your house. You log in 2 hours later and can't see my body within your house. I log in again little while after you logged in and I raid your stuff again. Wait for you to open your door to enter your house, shoot you dead and run out.

All of this would have been prevented if my body was still showing after I logged our and not vanished after 15 minutes. When you logged in you could have killed me and I would not have been able to re-log into your house when I joined.

Hope that makes it a little more clear.

RUST SERVER WIPE EXPLAINED: 9 March 2014 - 20:00

So.. after removing all the addons which i thought might be the problem again for the server crashes regarding memory useage too high, that did not help.

So then i tested by wiping the world.. which made a HUGE improvement from using 1.5GB memory to 600MB memory being used, we only have 1.6GB memory availeble and it's not something we can simply "increase" as it's handled by Multiplay and all the Rust servers runs on the same spec, i'll try my best again sending multiplay a ticket as this aint working, if this is the case we will need to schedule updates atleast every month or two.

If we don't do the wipes at this stage we will sit with a unstable server as most of you guys noticed already which aint helping either.

So we had to wipe the server making the server stable again for everyone to play on it, i really do hope you understand the choice thats been made as i don't really have alot, if it was as easy to just increase the memory sure that would have been done avoiding the server wipe.

After all that hard work... Know it's not your fault, however contemplating if it's still a viable option playing on this server then. We did put in a hell of allot of work into it. By the looks of it the server can't handle the traffic combined with the structures being built. Sad thing to have to read this morning.

This was multiplay's response to when i asked to increase my Rust servers memory:

I'm afraid to say that, without significant pricing restructure, we are simply not in a position to increase the memory allocation for this game. Rust is currently the most resource-intensive game we have on offer, beating the likes of DayZ and Battlefield 4 by significant margins, yet the pricing is still relatively low by comparison. We would need to increase the price somewhat in order to offer more memory allocation, and we are trying to avoid raising costs at this point, as we're fairly sure that a price hike would be much less in favour by the customer base than any other action.

My understanding of servers are very limited. Are you renting a server from Facepunch or are you running your own server? How does the memory allocation affect the server if it's your own server?

As I said, limited knowledge for all I know this is prob a retarded question :D

Most game servers these days are hosted by 3rd party vendors. There is two reasons for this.

1. Most new games require a specific licence to run a multiplayer server and mostly only companies like Multiplay and GameServers.com get these licences.
2. In order to host a server you need very good upload speed and since that is very expensive in SA us individuals find it non profitable to run a game server from home.

O ok, now the response makes sense. The multiplay server is rented to supply us with the game from Facepunch. and Multiplay can't justify the RAM increase on their server. Got it :)
