RWC final breaks DStv Now streaming records

Because they have improved dramatically just in time for the final.
 
The service has come a long way.

Will it ever be possible for them to stream as close to real-time as what the satellite signal is?
Is it an inherent problem with the technology, or would it continue to improve as fibre and other hardware technology improves latency figures?
 
All these people that ran flawlessly on Saturday, I am wondering what the minimum line speed we are looking at? Mine was flawless too, running 20mb fibre. I tried DSTV now a couple times on a 10mb line and there were endless buffering issues.

Mine was perfect on 10mb ADSL2+ syncing at 12mb
 
This is the reason why I went to a friend to watch the game. I was not going to risk watching on DSTV Now for such a big event and then my stream goes balls up.

Probably issues with the connection. Netflix 1080p doesn't even need 10Mbps, and DStv Now isn't 1080p. Conversely, I have to sometimes refresh the page to bring the quality back or because the stream has frozen, on my 200Mbps fibre connection. DStv Now is just not that reliable. It's improved, for sure, but is hardly robust and worthy of standalone subscription fees.
 
we were also streaming the game via DSTV ... decided to watch at home with friends instead of going out
I must say we were quite impressed with the connection and quality, from opening web, to selecting the game, all through the game to switchoff at the commentary at the end, no hassles whatsoever,... smooth sailing all the way :)
was really good experience
i actually put it down to the assumption that most people were watching from decoder or at a pub/bar somewhere, leaving the streaming service with lots of capacity :)
we had MTN LTE connection, reasonable signal... about 20-30Mbps speedtest before streaming

We were good at 10MB up and down Fibre streaming in HD
 
The 76th minute - we had a frozen moment for 10-15secs... Was SO happy that it returned :-)
 
Well, it did not go flawless, but when it buffered it was of short duration, which was fairly often. But the overall experience was a whole lot better, than the preceding games. This was consistent among my 8 or so friends whom also streamed the game, mostly at work.

All are of the opinion that the streaming was better, but not perfect. There might be hope yet for DSTV Now

For example, my mom's DSTV satellite dish recently broke, and seeing as she already had the DSTV Now app installed on her Xiaomi media player, she simply started using DSTV Now permanently for viewing DSTV instead wasting money fixing the satellite dish. Her decoder is now sitting in a cupboard gathering dust and the satellite dish has been removed from her roof yet she is a happy DSTV customer. There is just simply no point to ever use the decoder and satellite to access DSTV again.

Not all channels & radio stations are available via app apparently
