Ryzen 5 3500U vs A9-9425

So I need to purchase a laptop for my daughter school work (she is in high school (grade 9) and currently using her iPad which is no longer working out) and the school has asked to get Lenovo or ASUS (where possible).

I have found these two in stock:

Lenovo Ideapad S145

or

Lenovo L340

They both have 8GB ram which is a must to me but the biggest difference is the CPU. For normal day to day school work is the A9 good enough or would you still recommend paying the extra R2k to upgrade to the Ryzen 5 CPU?

The Ryzen 5 model has Full HD screen compared to HD ready screen (will be adding a second screen - probably 24") but then again the A9 version already has the 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

Please if someone can point me in the right direction as this is urgent to get as soon as possible. She doesn't play any games at all so will be purely for school work.
 
The Ryzen 5 is superior in every way.


Pay extra and get the Ryzen laptop, otherwise you will just have to buy her a new laptop in 2-3 years again. The Ryzen might give you some more time.

Not sure about that specific laptop, but you should be able to add an ssd later, or replace the hdd with an ssd.

Yeah that’s what I was looking at first but then saw mailer from school. But doesn’t have to be one of those. I think they said those models thinking more budget wise.

Looking to spend max R9k and that needs to have 8gb ram, FHD screed and ssd - the Lenovo comes it just over but offers all that.

Will speak to @Flashgear and see if he can help within budget too.
 
So still haven't decided yet - been crazy few days but have to sort this out this week.

Things have changed a little and we now wondering if we shouldn't spend a little more and get something she can also game on (she only plays fortnite so nothing to hectic needed).

Was looking at ASUS Tuff notebook with Ryzen CPU and GTX 1650 - these go for around R13k now. Is there anything better in that price range?

Not sure about better, but the Ryzen will be good to go for some gaming, especially when paired with a discrete GPU.
