iv been playing WoW with SAOL for close too 5 years, a few months ago i upgraded my account too 384K Uncapped - Shaped + FUP , i played for 2 months "perfectly" and start of last month it hooked me up straight too 20k MS and leads too instant disconnects.. simply put, unplayable. Have tried speaking too numerous people & technisions there & it seems they all totally clueless as too why? the one guy suggested that its because my account is "Shaped" but if that was the problem how could i of played the first 2 months perfectly with no lag what so ever?

Can anyone shed some light on this please?
Much love <3

I stand to be corrected. SAOL On the first of November moved from SAIX over to IS uncapped accounts. This may be part of the reason

Also, Blizzard in their infinite wisdom, decided to increase the packet size of the data that the WoW client sends.
This increase in packed size buggered up the existing priority filters, resulting in WoW data packets being treated with lowest priority.
The WoW forums are full of advice on changing the maximum packet size to a lower value, which resolves that specific problem.

We had the same problem a few years ago. We switched to unshaped we've had the fastest speed and the least disconnects (for WoW) out of any other ISP we've tried (and believe me, we've tried them all). Our SAOL 4mb unshaped is used strictly for WoW/raiding and we use Afrihost for downloads.

I don't think this is true. While I have read all these posts on how to tune your MTU down ect, that is actually not because Blizzard changed the packet size. Blizzard only changed the footprint of their protocol, ie. the protocol changed. Personally, I am not a fan of changing down your MTU.

If the size of the protocol is the problem, how did other ISPs solve the problem on shaped accounts? I can promise you they didn't force the game to use smaller packets, they just properly fixed it.

mmm weird :S could be your line try free 1 gb afrihost account

getting 350 constant MS with the free afrihost account -> , my SAOL account is still "working" in all other area's,
normal downloads are still stable & fairly fast (fast enough for WoW too run lag free) but yet....

unfortunately i cant cancell my account with them, they do my line rental & i need the email address for business, do you
think upgrading it too the "unshaped" account would solve this?

Well, changing the MTU changes the size of the maximum transmission unit. i.e. The maximum size of the data packet transmitted, that's why I assumed that they changed the amount of data that they transmit.
But, I could be way off the fact sheet.

Googleapps + register a .co.za to never be dependent on a specific provider again, then use the ISP that works for you

I would upgrade to unshaped regardless. From my own experience there was a marked difference between shaped and unshaped in 25 mans, including high traffic hours.
