I have set up a Connectify hotspot on my laptop, but my Galaxy S2 doesn't detect it. My mom's N8 has no problem detecting and connecting! Is my phone faulty or is there a setting to change?

Not to sure what a Connectify hotspot is but apparently stock the S2 can't connect to adhoc wifi hotspots. If that helps at all...

Connectify is like a virtual hotspot. But I guess it counts as ad-hoc. Is there any way to fix this?

Someone at work had the same problem, cyanogenmod worked. Don't know if there are any easier, non warranty cancelling ways though.

Ugh I don't want to flash/root my phone, so I'll rather go buy a router. Also, can I access my PC internet connection via USB cable? (Reverse Tethering?

I dont have any problems connecting to any hot spots
been all round the world connecting to wifi hot spots
and my S2 is stock
SKYPE works perfectly on WIFI on my galaxy S2

Is there any way to share my pc internet to my phone via USB cable?

Okay well it seems this is not possible. I'm going to go and look for unprotected free hotspots now.

Well it is possible......

Sharing mode:
Wifi Access Point, Encrypted (WPA2)

That creates a wifi hot spot that is NOT a ad hoc connection. If you select that option it must be able to pick it up cause I have a unrooted android phone and it picks it up as a access point and NOT a ad hoc.

The other 2 options are ad hoc open and ad hoc encrypted, and obviouslly they are ad hoc hotspots so it won't work.

Just create 1 with wifi access point.

Ah but you see, the PC I was trying this on had windows XP, which only supports ad-hoc.

Ohh ok. Never used it on xp so didn't know that. yes most stuff don't like ad hoc connections.

Connectify is not necessarily ad hoc. My desire, wildfire and galaxy s connect just fine.

Galaxy S on Cyanogen, but i don't see how this changes anything.

Connectify as i have it is not ad hoc.

Edit: just read the bit about being on xp. Virtual hotspot want written for xp

Search in the galaxy s2 xda forum... There is file you need to change in the system folders.. You must root for it to be possible. The file is a wpa_supplicant file. I have an ad hoc connection working perfectly but only an open one.
