Hi all,

My phone's battery is bugging the hell outta me, I want to find out from the experts!

I have had the phone for about 3 months now (this being the 3rd or 4th month) and my battery is giving me grief!
I've put "on" the 'percentage' feature so I can see how much before the battery goes flat, but recently, it will just start going off and NOT come on till I charge it.
Generally it happens about 9% range when the phone switches off, battery pull, whatever, won't come on till I charge it.
Today, it went off at 29%

I went to the Vodacom store and they said it's software related, not battery related.
I've recently upgraded the OS via KIES to;

Android Version: 4.2.2
Kernal Version: 3.4.5-1083225

(If that helps any)

Could it be battery related or software on the phone related?
Look, I run a "LIVE!" wallpaper and play alot on my phone, so the battery doesn't last even a day, but I only charge it when the battery runs flat and now I'm not sure now - because the phone goes off at random times, and it's not like, pull the battery and then the phone comes on and all is fine, I have to charge it before it comes on - comments?

I'm sure the battery is FUBAR, but the Vodacom guy in Gardens Centre, CPT says it's software related (which to me, doesn't make sense because if it was, the phone would still come on)

Check the battery S/N. If it starts with BD then its likely the battery as those were a bad batch.

S/N: BD1D508HS/2-B

So, it is a "BD" battery - can you post information on the source of the information regarding the "bad batch" so I can take it to Vodacare when I go to them tomorrow please.

Either way, software or battery related, as long as it's not rooted, give them the phone and tell them to give you one that works. No phone should be switching off at 29%. Something's broken.

No, it's not rooted, I updated it via KIES (proper update route)
Like now, I've had it on charge for about a hour, said it was 100%, took it out to get the S/N and powered it back on and it says it is 90%.

I say take it back and demand a warranty replacement. Dammit, how much money do we spend on these things. When something actually goes wrong, demand they fix. Take a sleeping bag with you.

Yes just had my battery replace at a Samsung service center. They have had about 30% of the BD serial number batch replaced. Samsung will replace it under warranty if you take POP they did not have stock on Thursday and finally got it today.

In 5 minutes, my battery power level dropped from 100% to 96% !!!

Thanks for this.

I've found my proof of purchase and will go visit a Vodacare tomorrow and resolve this issue.

Guess I've been lucky thus far, since I've had my s4 for about 5 months and no issues with the BD battery...

A pal has messaged me today asking advice about his battery. No swelling but erratic readings like the OP and no life past lunchtime. He says the serial starts with AA :/

Okay, so I went to the Green Point Vodacare shop in Cape Town and within 5 minutes I was leaving with my 'replacement' battery.
The lady noticed my battery was immediately faulty (bulging) even though I honestly couldn't tell the difference.
Done deal!
My new battery has a AA designation.

My battery regularly lasts me almost two days while listening to music... and the readings drop as expected (Slowly). I had an Omnia 7 before this though...that thing barely held out till lunch if you used it at all.
