S5 vs iPhone 6 plus

Because for the Average Joe specs mean squat. What counts is usability.

So think like camera performance, durability, storage on the phone (for all your songs) and how good a display looks to the naked eye, are important then?
They're of secondary importance - maybe tertiary.

It's hard to find a bad camera these days - unless RIM is still making phones :p As far as storage goes with the cloud and streaming it becomes less important. My devices have always been 16gb because it's always been plenty for me - I'm sitting on 4.9 free at the moment and I've got everything I need on it.

Battery becomes a consideration if doesn't last me a full, waking day because charging my phone at night serves a second important function - it provides me with a local backup.

TBH a phone has to meet one single requirement before I'll buy it… does it run iOS.

OK, so if those things don't count towards usability, what does?

Did you see the battery life report in the article Astro posted, it sucks. And yeh sure, 16Gb is enough for you, because you are tech savvy enough to know how to manage your cloud storage. 16Gb is not really enough for the average joe that keeps everything they own on that one device.

1 single requirement, for 1 single option. wow. o sorry, wait, now you have two to choose from. And they should really be comparing the 6+ with the Note 4, and not the S5. Then you'll see even a bigger difference imo.

16gb would vanish with 4k video recording and 16mp photos (especially with burst mode).

Look, I think 4k video is stupid, when we don't even have proper tv's yet to replay them on. If someone today shoots in 4k, I pity their soul.

But yeh, 16gb was massive a couple of years ago, today it's like "Only 16? Damn"

When I go to ultrasounds with my Wife I record in 4k so that I can get the whole picture and crop for good quality screen shots or clips when wanted :)

The user interface and how it integrates with my other devices.

Will the battery get me through a waking day? I don't know about you but I sleep and that's a pretty good time to charge and sync.

If 16GB wasn't big enough I'd get a 64/128gb device.

You think 16mp on a tiny sensor is a good thing?

Yep, I'll upload you some pics in full res if you like :)

On integration, my phone integrates with anything that has USB, bluetooth or wifi. What about yours?

Not to the average Joe. To the average Joe what counts is fashion or fashionable devices. Which means Iphones, Galaxy Ss and previously flagship blackberries. Otherwise Windows devices would be leading the IPhone market.

The note series were so unfashionable (outside of Korea) it was treated with derision. It turned out that the large size was usable and practical. Apple learnt that it had to start mimicking the rest of the market when it started to loose the tech conscious.

We interact most with the display and it turned out that it is an important spec for usability.

What an awful article.A tech opinion piece with specs as the premise for making a decision.Just lol :o
Waiting for the follow-up article on the gorgeous design and premium look of the S5 :)

I don't think it's about the display but about the CPU and RAM that bwana is on about. Most people are under the impression that the number of cores and the clock speed of a CPU with huge amounts of RAM will determine the quality of the user experience on a device. If the hardware and software are optimised together, you can have a low spec device performing the same as a high spec device. Cyanogenmod is a good example of what can be done with quality software on ab Android device.

However, if you have a really high-end device with optimised software, then it will be a killer. For example, the Meizu MX4 to me is a really beautiful looking phone, stunning hardware with a custom version of Android. As is, it should be awesome but if they release it with Ubuntu, it could be something really special. Or it could be a piece of shyte. Time will tell.

Was just about to say, just because iCloud, doesn't mean there is nothing else.

Also, as good as what the S5 is on battery use, as bad am I on battery usage. I don't think anyone will make a phone battery anytime soon where I can still load my 200 apps, have the screen on half the time, and make it to bed time. But having it look so much worse than the S5 is a bit worrying, isn't it?
