SA’s best and worst banks

I'm not surprised to see that FNB is still tops. Even here in the first world it's impossible to find a bank that comes close to offering as innovative and modern an online banking system.

One-time pins sent to your phone and flexible mobile banking via a smartphone app seem to be pretty unheard of here. Instead, they give you a bulky physical authenticator which is needed even for mobile banking and internet banking on its own is essentially the bare minimum.

Oh, FNB, how I miss you :(

Well at the moment I do not need in depth banking advice / service etc etc.

I bank with ABSA and they have (barring once) done their part.... well that and I only pay R29 / month bank fees no matter what I do.

I can do all that with Standard Bank as well, hell I don't even need to have a smartphone. I just need to dial *120*2345# and I get to do the same.

I personally think that all banks stink. My bank Standard Bank phoned me to quote terms and conditions in refusing to refund me less than R100 that I believed was due to me, after someone else already agreed to refund it. I am a customer for over 30 years, and the idiot who made the call not only wasted about R300 in manhours, but very nearly ended up having his MD in a small claims court. Plus ensured that I have a horrible feeling to standard and will never have anything to say other that they are as terrible as everybody else.

Lately I see that they have exelled themselves in offering the Samsung Aktiv Tab in response to FNB. It is really farsighted for this go ahead bank to offer a product which Samsung themselves decided not to market in the US and the UK. Enhances the believe that they are a third world bank.
